Unfortunately, we got two questions that don’t have good answers this week. But I got another reminder of how frustrated I am at Paramount and Universal for not even being able to release movies on Blu-ray that came out last year, let alone classic titles. But I have to give them some credit; they are getting better.

As always, send in your questions to: dvddoctor@joblo.com

I have recently discovered 2 great shows The Mighty Boosh & Look Around You both aired originally in Britain. Now here's my question, I noticed that they’re both on DVD but only in region 2 & 4 as far as I can see. Is there any places that has region 1 versions if not are there any plans to release either show on Region 1 DVD anytime soon? Thx - Jeremy

Unfortunately, no, there are no plans to release either show in the US. To be honest, I’m shocked anytime a British show makes its way to region 1. I was floored when they announced Robin Hood was coming to Blu-ray in the US. I’m not going to say they’ll never make their way to region 1, but right now it doesn’t look good. However, this is yet another reason to invest $50 to $100 in a region-free DVD player.

If you ask for it long enough, it’ll find its way to region 1.

What exactly are Paramount’s plans to bring some recent releases to Blu-ray? Mainly, I’m looking for a Blu-ray release of Atonement. Thanks - Kristy

Believe it or not, ATONEMENT was my favorite movie of 2007. But I didn’t even buy it on DVD because I’m waiting for the Blu-ray release. I’d be willing to be there are several people out there in the same boat. Unfortunately, Paramount has not officially announced anything at this time. But with the recent announcements of EASTERN PROMISES and SWEENEY TODD, I would suspect ATONEMENT to not be far behind.

I will buy this the day it comes out on Blu-ray.

As far as their plans…I wouldn’t say there’s anything deeper to it than what they think will sell the most to give them the highest sales during the holiday season.
