Now that you have all of those speakers, what are you going to do with them? Not many people have an ideal setup for a home theater, but if you calibrate everything correctly, you should still be able to enjoy a great surround sound experience.

Have a question about DVD’s, Blu-rays or anything regarding home theaters? Send in your questions to:dvddoctor@joblo.com

I recently upgraded my surround system to a 7.1 speaker placement instead of a 5.1. My question is what to do with the back four speakers. I’m getting conflicting advice. Some people tell me to put them directly behind my seats and others tell me to put the two surround speakers on either side of the room (like in the picture you showed last week). What’s your opinion and why? - Steve

Where you put your speakers is completely dependant on the layout of your room. If we’re in a perfect home theater, the walls would be closed off and you would have your speakers placed on either side of the wall. With surround sound, evenly placed speakers, as far apart as possible, provide the most drastic surround sound…typically.

If you have to, move the back speakers closer together, but keep the distance equal.

However, most of us aren’t building our movie theater in our house and we have to make due with what we have. For cases where your room doesn’t provide optimal acoustics or room for speaker placement, put your surround speakers on opposite ends, behind your seating and then two rear speakers close together in the center, as in the diagram. With any surround setup, it’s important to make sure all the matching speaker pairs are equal distance from the center of the seating area.

Where’s the best place to buy “adult” DVD’s? - Thanks

Seriously, how many times can you watch this before it gets boring?

This really isn’t my type of question…oh, who am I kidding? Of course it’s my type of question. But to be honest, all of the adult retailers are the same and I don’t really want to link to any of them here. But with all the free…err…”adult” content available online, why pay for it?
