I’m surprised no one asked about the possible delay of IRON MAN. Was I the only one worried about that? You just can’t mess with major DVD releases. My nerves can’t take it.

Have a question about DVD’s, Blu-rays or anything regarding home theaters? Send in your questions to:dvddoctor@joblo.com

I was wondering if there is a release date calendar for steelbook dvds and if it specifies which region is getting it? This question comes because I was almost positive that there would be a steelbook release of Iron Man. I know future shop in Canada has one but out here in the States I expected Best Buy to have it and nothing. Since I'm here I guess I'll ask as well, is there a steelbook release here in the US that I missed? - Andres

I’m continually surprised by how popular the steelbook casings are. I know a lot of people collect them and I know they fly off the shelves at Best Buy. As for a website that details release dates for steelbooks, I don’t know of any. Best Buy gets a lot of exclusives and the best thing I can tell you is to check their ad on a weekly basis.

Well, if I had to choose, I’d buy the steelcase…

As for Iron Man, the US got several different packages for it. I know Best Buy and Target each had their own exclusives, but I have not seen a steelbook in the US. I had heard that Suncoast was going to have the same, red steelbook as an exclusive, but I don't see it available on their website. However, it might be worth a trip to the local mall before you pick it up.

For the sake of getting a discussion going, why do you think the entertainment industry tends to strive when the US economy struggles? What makes the entertainment industry immune to the pitfalls and struggles that most industries face? Thanks - James

Wow, this question came out of nowhere. But somehow I feel like I’m going to be contributing to an essay question at some unspecified University. So for the sake of plagiarism, I’ll give you my simple, obvious answer.

I think that people use movies as a way to escape their lives more than any other form of entertainment. For $10 or less, someone can go to a movie and for two hours, forget how miserable their life is. Plus, when the economy goes down, the more expensive forms of entertainment struggle, but people always come back to the movies.

Depending on how long the economy points downward, it might eventually have an effect on the entertainment industry, albeit indirectly. You might see advertisers start pulling ads from TV shows or be less willing to pay for product placements in the next Michael Bay film. Of course, DVD and Blu-ray sales could eventually suffer if the economy gets too bad. Overall though, the entertainment industry is a good one to be in during hard economic times.
