Okay everyone, listen up…the second you buy your Blu-ray player, go home and check to see if you have the latest update. Then, check every month or so for a profile update from now until you throw your player away. Almost all of the problems you’ll experience with the Blu-ray player are directly attributed to the player not having the latest update.

Have a question about DVD’s, Blu-rays or anything regarding home theaters? Send in your questions to:dvddoctor@joblo.com

I sat down to watch The Happening with some friends and when the menu came up, I couldn’t navigate through it. None of the buttons would work on the remote and even after I changed the batteries, I still got nothing. I returned the disc, but when I tried the new one, it stiiiillll didn’t work. What’s wrong?????? Thanks - Brian

You don’t have the latest profile installed on your player. Here’s a hint to every single Blu-ray owner; whenever you come across something that seems odd and you check all the obvious things, you probably need a profile upgrade.

It wasn’t as bad as everyone said it was.

Trying to watch a movie with an older profile can cause all sorts of problems depending on what movie you’re trying to watch, what profile you have and what player you’re using. There’s really no rhyme or reason. Sometimes it will cause the menus to not work, other times it will cause the movie to start/stop at a certain point and it sometimes it won’t work at all. So always check your manufacturer’s website to stay on top of the newest profiles.

With the huge success of Fireproof, do you know if they’re going to be doing anything special for the DVD release? Do you know yet when it will be released? Thanks - Ken

Nothing has been announced yet, but you can bet there will be some kind of release “event” for this. Judging by the marketing extravaganza PASSION OF THE CHRIST did for its religious followers, I can’t imagine FIREPROOF wouldn’t do the same thing. I’m guessing there will be church events and flyers and all kinds of things marketing the film.

Surprise hit of the…decade?

As for when it’s coming out, we don’t know yet. However, I would guess it would coincide with a Christian holiday. Probably not Christmas, so maybe right around Easter. But again, that’s just a guess.

THANK you for being one of the few people who didn't hate THE HAPPENING.

I myself loved it, but even a non-hater (as opposed to a lover) is welcome in my book.
