Maybe it's the kid in me, but I can't help but enjoy 3D movies, even if they're horrible. I always get a kick out of it, but thankfully, I've resisted the urge to pick up the 3D Hannah Montana movie...for now.

Have a question about DVD’s, Blu-rays or anything regarding home theaters? Send in your questions to:dvddoctor@joblo.com

I keep hearing that analog tv signals are going away in 2009 and that I should be prepared. Uhhh…what exactly does that mean? I don’t care about the technical details, I just need to know if I need to buy a new tv. Thanks - Mark

Well, you won’t need to buy a brand new TV. However, you may have to order a converter box depending on how old your TV is. Check out the video below for details.

Not everyone will handle the conversion easily.

But seriously, if you have cable or a satellite or if your TV has a digital tuner, you won’t have to do anything. If you have an antenna with tin foil wrapped around it and it’s connected to an analog TV, you may be in trouble. You can go to THIS website and order your converter, or you can buy a new TV.

So I was all excited about sitting down to watch Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D, I even bought some comfortable, 3D glasses to watch it. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to use them because Journey was filmed in some kind of weird green and red 3D. First, do you know why they did that? Second, do you know when/if we’ll ever be able to replicate real 3D in a home theater? Thanks - Bill

Yeah, I’m sorry those $10 anaglyph glasses can’t go to good use. JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH uses the green/magenta lenses with the magenta over the right eye as opposed to the left. So the traditional red/blue glasses won’t work. I don’t know why they chose to do it that way, but they probably felt it would be sharper and create a better picture. I will say that of all the 3D movies I've seen on my TV, this easily had the best 3D.

3D is fun, 2D is miserable

What makes it worse is that some copies of Journey didn’t come with enough glasses, so you’re left taking turns watching the movie, or you have to suffer the indignation of watching it in 2D. Believe me, you don’t want to do that. However, there are places out there that sell the green/magenta glasses, and THIS store is one of them.

That said, I had a real problem watching it in 3D. The colors were horrible through those green/red glasses, and they hardly brought out anything 3D from it.

Me? I want Real3D on my TV!
