Studios are in their final push to get discs out before the Holidays, so don’t expect any obscure titles to hit shelves before next spring. It’s all about the safe, popular titles right now.

Have a question about DVD’s, Blu-rays or anything regarding home theaters? Send in your questions to:dvddoctor@joblo.com

Any idea why you can only get the FULL METAL JACKET 2-disc dvd in the Stanley Kubrick box set? Thanks – Steven

A must-own for all war movie fans

I’ve noticed this is becoming a bit of a trend with studios regarding their releases on both DVD and Blu-ray. Not releasing individual movies obviously forces consumers to shell out more money for a larger set. I understand it with movies like the MATRIX or SPIDER-MAN, but I don’t really understand the logic with FULL METAL JACKET. Just because you like Jacket, it doesn’t mean you’ll like LOLITA. But to answer your question; WB probably assumes that they wouldn’t sell enough copies to merit producing enough to sell individually. After the holidays, you’ll probably see some of those films released individually, but right now manufacturing space is limited and studios have to get the biggest bang for their buck. However, you can buy the deluxe edition on BLU-RAY.

Do you have any idea as to when the Chuck Palahniuk novel-based, Clark Gregg-directed, Sam Rockwell and Angelica Huston-starring movie CHOKE (which only opened in limited release this past September and made me and many others miss it) will be available on DVD? Thanks,--Barry

Should be out in the spring

Four months is the normal time frame. It’s almost like clockwork. So CHOKE was released on September 26th. This is not an announcement, it’s just me speculating, but I give it plus or minus two weeks of January 26th, 2009.

UPDATE: February 17th, 2009 is the official release date, just announced. I was close...
