Have a question about DVD’s, Blu-rays or anything regarding home theaters? Send in your questions to:dvddoctor@joblo.com
Hey DVD Doctor. Not sure what I’m doing wrong, but whenever I watch a movie on my SONY BLU-RAY machine, I have to JACK the volume up to 70-80 JUST to hear them well. When I switch back to my TV, it’s like SUPER-LOUD, as it only takes about the 20 level on my TV and DVD player. Am I doing something wrong? Isn’t BLU-RAY sound SUPPOSED to be sharper and louder? In my case, it seems to be the exact opposite!
My guess is that you're selecting "DTSHD" or some other surround feature on your blu-ray player, but your TV isn't set up to handle that. So there's a disconnect between the audio signal your player is outputting and what your TV is set up to input. Try changing the settings on your TV to 5.1 surround or something like that. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to change the settings on your blu-ray player to a lower sound quality. If you're still having problems, then when you select an audio on your blu-ray disc, make sure you don't select any DTSHD or TrueHD languages. That should give your TV an easier time reading the signal.
It really sounds like your TV is only reading ONE channel from your Blu-ray player. That means either a) your settings are wrong, b) your connection is faulty or c) your TV's speakers are blown.
Hey doc, there was a rumor a while ago that they were going to release all of the Friends seasons on Blu-ray. Have you heard any updates on that? Thanks - Eric

I’m not sure this is one I need on Blu-ray
I think I get asked more questions about Blu-ray TV shows than I do about Blu-ray movies. Unfortunately, I haven’t heard anything about Friends on Blu-ray since one of their guys said something at a Blu-ray conference about a year ago. It’s one of the best selling TV on DVD sets, so I would assume it will eventually make its way to Blu-ray.
