Disney's Keychest

Discs. HA! They're just one way to watch a movie anymore. And who wants just one way of anything? So here is the Keychest....

With Disney's Keychest (according to an article on Video Business Online), "consumers would pay one price for permanent access to a movie or TV show across a wide variety of digital formats, be it iPhones, cable services, PCs, Blu-ray Disc players, connected TVs and other devices capable of playing back digital films."

As quoted in an article in The Hollywood Reporter, a Disney inside said, "Dad has a Zune, Mom has an iPod, there's a Mac and a PC at home and a Roku box; right now, those devices don't talk to one another," the insider said. "We intend to blend those worlds."

So, while this doesn't necessarily suggest that DVDs and Blu-rays are on their way out, it does indicate that the traditional way of home video viewing is scurrying towards the door.
