Werner Herzog once ate his shoe following a bet. Nicolas Cage named his son after Superman. The two are batty as all hell, plus some, which is why Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans is high up on my list of must-see movies for the rest of 2009. Based very, very loosely or perhaps not at all on 1992's Bad Lieutenant (Herzog has said of the original's director, Abel Ferrara, "I've never seen a film by him. I have no idea who he is."), Port of Call stars Cage as a corrupt, drug-addicted, iguana-hallucinating cop dealing with murder, prostitutes, and an iguana. The film doesn't hit theaters until late November, but the DVD and Blu-ray hits shelves on February 23, 2010.
