October 29, 2009

But there are more important things over here at the DVD Clinic, like home video numbers. Check out the Top 10 for the week of October 12th to the 18th…
I'm not sure who green lit the idea, but Sandra Bullock is back in a big way. Her latest, The Proposal, not only opened #1 at the box office back in June and dethroned the reigning champ, Monsters vs. Aliens, from the #1 spot on the WRW chart, but took in more rental revenue than #2-10 combined. The runner-up is Land of the Lost by more than $30 million, while M v. A (hip, eh?) inches closer to the $60 million mark, which X-Men Origins: Wolverine (this week's #5) surpassed last week. Other returners are Year One, which slips out of the top 5, last week's runner-up Bones, and something called My Life in Ruins. Other new releases on the chart are Sam Raimi's "return to form" Drag Me to Hell (#4), season one of Legend of the Seeker (which has Raimi as an exec. prod.), and what should be the single greatest DVD release of 2009, Katt Williams: Pimpadelic.
Out on DVD and Blu-ray this week are: Michael Bay's 2009 box office champ Transformers 2 (BD/DVD); Stephen Frears' Michelle Pfeiffer-starring Cheri (DVD); a special edition of John Hughes' Planes, Trains and Automobiles (DVD); Criterion Collection's release of Wings of Desire (BD/DVD); and the STV Wrong Turn 3 (BD/DVD), which gave the JoBlo Podcast boys something to talk about this week; Blu-ray releases of Easy Rider and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory; and seasons of CBS' Hawaii Five-O (DVD) and Showtime's It's Garry Shandling's Show (DVD) and The L Word (DVD)
