This was my prediction for ICE AGE at www.leesmovieinfo.com (http://www.leesmovieinfo.com) :

Friday: 13.1 Million
Saturday: 19.8 Million
Sunday: 12.6 Million

Total = 45.5 Million

I probably won't win but I could, it's not completely hopeless.

And I bet 5 Box Office Points that SHOWTIME would make more than 20 Million, I guess I'll be losing 5 points.

WTF? Ice Age beats RE? http://www.joblo.com/ubb/confused.gif Boy people are really transporting themselves to 3D animation over real movies these days!

Actually, I thought Ice Age looked really good and Resident Evil looked really shitty...

Either way, Ice Age is as real a movie as Resident Evil is.

I haven't seen either one yet, but I'll see both (and Showtime) before this weekend is out.

Jeez!!!!

It looks to be a BIG weekend at the box office!

Ice Age is doing fantastic business and Resident Evil and Showtime alaso look to have great debuts. Friday's numbers are very very big!

well there are 2 reasons why Ice Age would beat Resident Evil:

1) Ice Age is rated G
2) Little kids aren't gunna see Resident Evil, pretty much just teen agers and fans of the game are gunna see Resident Evil. I would see RE over Ice Age but the 5 year old kids wouldn't http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif

SHOWTIME's 3rd place Friday gross is a bit disappointing but not that surprising. Movies with built-in audiences like ICE AGE and RESIDENT EVIL open like gangbusters. Their fans tend to rush out to see it on opening day. I expect ICE AGE to continue strong but I expect SHOWTIME to have a much higher increase than RESIDENT EVIL on Saturday. I think SHOWTIMEwas hurt by the negative reviews more than RESIDENT EVIL was because its main audience consists of adults. But once word spreads that SHOWTIME is actually great fun and nowhere near as bad as critics say it is, I expect them to give it a chance. Also, those who rushed out to see the other two will now check out SHOWTIME. RESIDENT EVIL, on the other hand, does not have as much crossover appeal and probably already peaked on Friday. But we'll see. As you all know, there's no logic when it comes to the box-office.

I actually think Resident Evil will do much better than most people expect it to be.

BTW, Ice Age looks okay, but if I had to choose an entertaining, action-packed romp with zombies, versus another run-of-the-mill CGI kid-friendly movie, then I'd choose Resident Evil.

BTW, the trailers for Resident Evil, may have been shitty, but they don't do the movie justice. The movie was awesome. Just go in expecting a entertaining way to kill time instead of character development and plot and you'll enjoy it just fine.

I saw RE to a sold out crowd last night. I can't see how ICE AGE looks entertaining. I'm totally sick of these 3D kids movies. RE is a great movie, both entertaining and a good explanation to the first game. GO RE!

Resident Evil always kinda struck me as a movie that would make a ton of money, regardless of it's quality. I didn't think it was very good, but it'll make some money for sure...

For the record, when I went to see Resident Evil today, it was about half full (which is good for that theater). When I went to see Ice Age, it was sold out and people still wanted to get in. I know it's just my dinky theater, but I think it reflects the B.O. pretty well.

I knew Ice Age would beat Resident Evil and Showtime. But you can’t really compare them. That is because Ice Age is a kids movie and every kid out there wants to see it. Now for every one kid that wants to see the movie go ahead and add one or two more extra tickets for the parents that are forced to go. About 1/2 of the ticket sells go to people that don’t really want to see it, but they have to go because of their kids bugging them every two seconds about wanting to see the movie.

I remember when Monster’s Inc came out, I met a lady with a lot of kinds running around and I ask if the movie was any good. She told me that she seen it 6 different times and if she sees it one more time she is going to kill herself.

i know this is VERY hard to believe, but at my theater, there were whole families walkin in. I could not believe it. I LITERALLY saw a 3 7-5 year old's and at least 10 more nine year olds. about half the audience was under 15.

There were qutie a lot of kids (like 10 year olds) in my theater, too. One stupid family actually bought a baby there, and the movie was just so loud that the baby screamed and screamed. Luckily they took her out early, because the movie only got louder...

I didn't notice many kids in my theatre. And quit with the stereotype of how the only people seeing Resident Evil are 14-year old stereotypes who play videogames.

Most of the people who were in the theatre were adults, and several couples. I saw maybe like, 1 or 2 kids.

oooo... LOTR is pushing 300 million

it should be able to beat HP if it wins a lot of Oscars and the rerelease of TTT trailer on 2,000 + theaters wouldnt hurt.

it might end with 320 million... its at 294 now.

HOLY BUTT FUCK! It's been a huge weekend at the box-office. Damn, kids really like entirely CGI movies... I can't think of one that has bombed (excluding Final Fantasy)...

But Final Fantasy was PG-13, not really a kids movie.

Ice Age made $47.8 million?!?!?! Holy Shit! That's huge...for March! Although the Star Wars trailer probably helped it a fair amount. Is that the highest-ever March debut? I'd be willing to be that it is.

Crapstorm

Yep. The previous record was held by Liar Liar, $31.42M.

March looks like it is going to be a HUGE month at the Box Office.

With a film grossing north of $20 million every weekend thus far, we can expect the trend to continue. Next week, it is likely that 3 films will gross north of $20 million, Ice Age (coming off an already record setting debut weekend), E.T and Blade II.
Then the final weekend in March, I suspect The Panic Room to also continue the $20 million opening weekend trend.

If March is any indication of things to come, look for 2002 to be a record setting year at the Box Office!

Well, I ended up winning the Box Office Forecast Challenge. I was really surprised. That's the second time I've won this season. The first was for A Beautiful Mind and now for Ice Age. I still lost 5 points over SHOWTIME though, damn it, I shouldn't have bet 5 points it would make over 20 Million, I should have bet against it. Oh well though, I'm just happy I won BOFC.
