Well, I have bad news guys. My friend recieved the advanced promo copy of the new Event Horizon DVD yesterday and while the special features are cool, I can confirm it's still the same film. I'll be buying it anyway since I don't own the other DVD, but I know for a lot of schmoes, that was the dealbreaker...:(

although i have yet to own a copy of Event Horizon, im still not sure whether or not to get this since they may (although unlikely) release the uncut version at some point in the near future. im still confused as to what the hell happened with it since Anderson had recorded a commentary for the uncut version when they had originally announced it would be the directors cut

ill probably get it anyway but im not happy about the lack of the 20 minutes of nastiness we're still missing

:( for the lack of uncutness
:D for it at least getting a better release

My hope is that when they do release the uncut version in the future, it's a branching version. I love blood and guts in my films, but Event Horizon was a tightly-paced film as it was, and I can't see wanting 20 more minutes every time I watch it...

yeah, i wouldnt mind having a branching version with the theatrical and directors cuts, it would be nice having both together

Being that this flick is one of my all time favs i'll definitely be getting this. It's a damn shame that it won't be released uncut, however! reading some reviews on it i've found that apparently a good deal of the deleted gore scenes can be seen on the extra features disc which is cool.

From what i've read in a review (at www.dvdtimes.co.uk) it's unlikely that a director's cut will ever surface. Whether or not it ever existed or not is something that will never be known. But according to Anderson much of the supposed footage has been lost. So that's that scuppered.

Am I the only one that feels kind of offended at the DVD review of the movie posted on here? I was already kinda cheesed at being passed off as a "lover of B-movie men in monster suits" in the Godzilla: Final Wars review, but now I'm a "preteen girl who thought the remake of WHEN A STRANGER CALLS was scary"? WTF? I don't even care if you liked the movies or not, stop shitting on the fans of the movies just because you didn't care for it.

the review didnt say that if you liked the film you were a preteen girl...

"If you’re a preteen girl who thought the remake of WHEN A STRANGER CALLS was scary, then EVENT HORIZON is going to scar you for life"

Search the internet. Fans of this movie have been clamoring for a special edition release in the United States for years. This is a FANBOY edition, get it? It finally comes out, and JoBlo gives the assignment to some kid who's never seen the original, and patently doesn't care.

How much sense does that make? I have an idea -- let's have Revenge of the Sith reviewed by someone who never bothered to see Star Wars! You can't tell me that with all the JoBlo contributors, they couldn't find someone who actually liked the original to review the special edition.

Yeah, but I just feel a little insulted, as I know quite a few people on this board love this film, and if you don't like it, that's fine, but some the more recent DVD reviews for some genre films just don't seem like they fit with the people who are reviewing them. And who in the hell was expecting Alien when watching Event Horizon? I knew from the get-go it wasn't a creature film, it was a haunted house movie (set in space, albeit).

What is this original you speak of? There's no difference between the version on the new DVD and the version that was released in the cinema. It's only different from the original DVD release in that the picture and audio quality have been improved and it's got some top notch extras. And why should having seen the movie before be a prerequisite before a person is deemed capable of reviewing any movie? Surely a fresh perspective has equal (possibly more) value? No?

Yeah.. granted I saw this film when I was in 6th grade (that was, what, 8 years ago?), but it's been one of my top horror films since..

The ending 'flash' shots of a certain gory bad place.. hehe. Those scared the life out of me..

Damn them for not making this the uncut version though.. I've been waiting for that for a loooooooong time. 0_o

Considering Paramount's track record for treating horror films (Friday The 13th, anyone?), I think that said cut scenes would be nowhere near useful condition for seamless branching. You'd instantly see where the spliced footage went, ruining the experience.

As for JoBlo having 'some kid' review the DVD, I agree that it'd probably be better handled by the dudes at the DVD Pub.

i completely agree with ya, which is why ive stopped reading a lot of dvd reviews for genre films, specifically horror because the reviewers just dont seem to be a real fan of the genre

still kinda bummed that the cut scenes aren't on the dvd but if you watch the documentary of the making of the film you'll see bits and pieces of them

but by god i still can't believe i was right about the fucking and eating each other to death scene (which i've called it for the last 9 yrs) and that's exactly what it is
