I think one of the main movies that will get some oscars will be INSOMNIA. It will definitly get Best Actor Al Pacino, Best Supporting Actor Robin Williams, And mybe Best Picture.

Another movie getting some nomanations will be STAR WARS: ATTACK OF THE CLONES. It will get Best Special Effects.

ICE AGE will get a Best Animated picture nomanation.

These are all i can think of right now.

The only film I have seen so far this year that could earn a major Academy Award nomination is Unfaithful. Diane Lane definetly has a shot at a nod for Best Actress.

Along with Insomnia and Ice Age, We Were Soldiers may get some attention, but ThereWolf just hopes that it's March release, a whole year before the awards, isn't damning!

Insomnia
Best Actor-Al Pacino
Best Supporting Actor-Robin Williams
best Supporting Actress-Hilary Swank
best Director-Christopher Nolan
best Adapted Screenplay

They deserve at least one of those awards![unless a really really good performance or director or screenplay comes along]

Hugh Grant, About a Boy: He should definitely be remembered for this excellent performance and considering the fact that Renee Zellweger was nominated last year for the same type of film, I think he might just slip in there.

I hope Minority Report and Road to Perdition get Score nominations, but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't.

I also hope Al Pacino is up for Best Actor for Insomnia, but I dunno.

Minority Report and AOTC should get visual effects nominations. Spider-Man too...

Perhaps best costumes for The Count of Monte Cristo? And maybe Monsoon Wedding for Best Foreign Film.

I think Insomnia and Road To Perdition has a good shot at getting nods for the big awards. Like Best Actor, Best Supp. Actor, Director, and maybe Screenplay.

Movies like Attack of the Clones, Spider-Man, and Minority Report will only get a few little nods for the technical stuff.

And I really doubt We Were Soldiers will be nominated for anything. It was released way too early. I suggest looking for Mel Gibson's other movie... Signs to get a few nods instead.

I am also in agreement about Hugh Grant. I thought it was a damn good performance. And I really hope the academy doesn't overlook it.

And finally, Ice Age and Lilo & Stitch will definitely be nominated for Best Animated Film. And I think Monsoon Wedding has a slight chance of getting a nod for Foreign Film.

Surely Panic Room will get some technical noms. Jodie Foster has a shot at best actress.

There are only a couple of movies that have a shot at the major categories. Road to Perdition has a slight chance at getting a best picture and director nod. And I supose has a pretty decent chance at getting a best actor nod. for Tom Hanks and a supporting actor nod. for Paul Newman. The movie could also end up with a nod for it's cinematography and art direction. Beyond Road to Perdition, however (and infact maybe even including it), it is just way too early when there are alot of promising looking movies coming out in the fall (Gangs of New York, Moonlight Mile, Chicago, Catch Me If You Can, Confessions of a Dangerous Man, The Hours, Solaris, Adaptation, The Antwone Fisher Story, 8 Mile, Gods and Generals, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Four Feathers). Some of the technical awards could be filled with the likes as Star Wars and Spiderman and Minority Report. Everything else is simply just a long shot. But here are somethings I would like to see happen as of right now. A best picture and director for Steven Spielberg and his Minority Report. The same for Christopher Nolan and Insomnia. Al Pacino for a best actor for Insomnia and Hugh Grant a best actor for the delightful movie About a Boy. A best actress for the most underrated and underappreciated actress of our time, Diane Lane for Unfaithful. And I would love to see Bill Paxton get a best director nomination for Frailty and Blade II a best makeup nomination. That is what I would like atleast for the first half of the year. I am sure that this will change as well.

p.s. I almost forgot: I would love to see both Orange County and Insomnia pick up nomination for their screenplays.

lol http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I would have to agree for the most part.

I think the movies I really enjoyed don't have a shot in hell of getting any kind of nominations. The ones I saw and found very pretentious and boring will probably win tons of stuff.

I didn't see it yet, but it will undoubtedly win best special effects, being a Spielburg flick and all. One guy you can't afford to ignore.

I don't know Cy. Last year A.I. didnt get the visual effects award, which in my opinion it deserved among other awards. A damn shame http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif

Anyway, while the visuals in Minorty Report were amazing the winner will most likely be The Two Towers. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/frown.gif

Damn those vertically challenged wizards, damn them to hell!! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I hope Samantha Morton gets a best supporting actress nod for Minorty Report. She was great.

Also, Bill Paxton getting a directing nod for Frailty would be nice, but I dont see it happening.

So if there were an Oscar ceremony this evening (I wouldn't have a THING to wear, by the way), which films that have met the necessary qualifications would be accepting awards? Hmm...

Here are mine for the Big Eight:

Best Picture: Road to Perdition

Best Director: Sam Mendes, Road to Perdition

Best Actor: Al Pacino, Insomnia

Best Actress: Diane Lane, Unfaithful

Best Supporting Actor: Paul Newman, Road to Perdition

Best Supporting Actress: Bebe Neuwirth, Tadpole

Best Original Screenplay: Y Tu Mama Tambien

Best Adapted Screenplay: Road to Perdition

Note about the Best Actor race: Yes, I know that Tom Hanks did a great job, his best work in years. I also know that in two of the last three years Best Actor and Best Picture matched up.

However, the last time someone won a third acting Oscar was Jack Nicholson, and his third one came almost THIRTY years after his first nomination. Prior to Jack was, I believe, Ingrid Bergman, more than TWENTY-FIVE years before Jack. (Not counting Katharine Hepburn, of course, who received her fourth Oscar after 350 years in the business.)

What I'm saying is, once you get to the number three level, it has much more to do with posterity and the history books than it does with the performance. Tom Hanks is beloved and talented, but I have the feeling the Academy is going to wait until he's older to give him his third.

Call me crazy, but I feel that since the Oscars are completely arbitrary and only serving of the box-office-money-makers, I think they might nominate Harrison Ford for K-19.
Easy now, I'm not saying he remotely deserves it, he was going from one accent to the next in this so-so-at-best flick, but as Oscar nominations are doled out, I have a sneaking suspicion they will think it's his time. He's made the most money of any actor for films to date and he's dating a hot albeit-extraordinarily-thin actress. They want people to tune in, and they have to give this guy his due before his jowls drop so low, he looks like Mr. Beefy from Little Nicky.

We'll all have to wait after the huge Oscar buzz on Gangs of New York

I don't know, it's been a pretty slow year.

My main contention here is that I hope We Were Soldiers is shut out of everything. This movie was so disappointing, in so many ways. I would get tired just typing all the played out cliches this movie tried to shove down my throat. Mel Gibson has done some wonderful things; this was not one of them.
