All this ironic love over Snakes on a Plane is driving me insane! Is there anyone out there who is sincerely looking forward to the movie, you know, someone who thinks it looks like a hell of a thriller?

Wait, what the hell is it? It's Samuel L. Jackson, some snakes, and a plane. Damn, Samuel L. Jackson is bound to become the next Eugene Levy when it comes to saying yes to any bad script.

I feel you :(
Marie Antoinette looks very interesting - and similar to Barry Lyndon.
A highly stylized pre-Victorian epic; it looks fun.
Inland Empire
A Prairie Home Companion
Fast Food Nation
The Departed
Scoop
The Fountain
Little Miss Sunshine
The Black Dahlia
The Good Shepherd
The Good German
The Science of Sleep
Idiocracy (kind of)
Babel
The Last Kiss (also, kind of)
Anyone want to see the King?
I personally don't reallly want to see All the King's Men.
Also, forgot to mention this (which looks excellent):
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Cronos

Zodiac
The Fountain
Black Dahlia
The Science of Sleep
Apocalypto

The Da Vinci Code
X-Men 3
Cars
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
All The King's Men (Steven Zaillian, awesome cast)
Little Children (Todd Field, mainly because of Kate Winslet)
Fur (Steven Shainberg (who hasn't done much), starring Nicole Kidman (looking forward to it because of her))
A Scanner Darkly (Richard Linklater)
Fast Food Nation (Richard Linklater)
A Good Year (Ridley Scott)
The Good German (Steven Soderbergh)
The Good Shepherd (Robert DeNiro)
The Black Dahlia (Brian DePalma)
The Departed (Martin Scorsese)
Flags of Our Fathers (Clint Eastwood)
Red Sun, Black Sand (Clint Eastwood)
Inland Empire (David Lynch)
Babel (Alejandro González Iñárritu)
Southland Tales (Richard Kelly)
The Fountain (Darren Aronofsky)
Zodiac (David Fincher)
And maybe also Miami Vice, as I am sort of a fan of Michael Mann, but it's not looking too hot right now. And also maybe World Trade Center... I generally like Oliver Stone, but Alexander was a stinker. In fact, he hasn't really done anything good in a while... But we'll see. There's also Mel Gibson's Apocalypto, which definitely sounds very interesting even though aside from Braveheart I'm not really a Mel fan. And there's also M. Night Shyamalan's latest, Lady in the Water, even though with every film he's released ever since The Sixth Sense I've lost interest in him more and more. And finally, Robert Altman's latest, A Prairie Home Companion. Great cast, although I never liked Robert Altman, and I really hated his last one, The Company. In any case... looks like one hell of a year.

Agreed-- much wider audience...it's gonna be #1 for sure.

-DaVinci Code
- Superman Returns
Miami Vice
The Fountain
The Departed
There's probably more, but in all honesty all I'm thinking is Vice

As far as boxoffice, POTC vs X-Men 3... i think that Superman Returns will be bigger than both and finish at #1 this summer, though i am looking forward to POTC2 and X-men 3 way more!

I don't know when Lynch will finish shooting Inland Empire because he loves everything to be precise and careful, he was supposed to debut the picture at Cannes, but it may not be out until next year Cannes time. Or very late '06.
These four films I am extremely excited to see:
The Devil Wears Prada
A Scanner Darkly
A Praire Home Companion
World Trade Center

I'm not gonna post the details on the movies I'm looking forward to the most here since I already did that here: http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=98456
(the last two posts as it was too long for one post :p)
but here they are in order:
40. All the King's Men
39. Black Snake Moan
38. The Da Vinci Code
37. The Fantastic Mr. Fox
36. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
35. Inland Empire
34. Awake
33. Fracture
32. Alpha Dog
31. Shoot 'Em Up
30. Little Children
29. The Good Shepherd
28. Superman Returns
27. Mission: Impossible III (7/10)
26. Guerrilla
25. I'm Not There
24. A Scanner Darkly
23. Lucky You
22. Idiocracy
21. Perfume
20. Zodiac
19. The Children of Men
18. Click
17. Wristcutters
16. Silent Hill
15. American Dreamz
14. Brick (8/10)
13. Miami Vice
12. V for Vendetta
11. Lucky Number Slevin (6/10)
10. Stranger Than Fiction
09. Marie-Antoinette
08. The Departed
07. The Lady From Shanghai
06. Babel
05. Southland Tales
04. The Fountain
03. The Prestige
02. The Science of Sleep
01. The Black Dahlia
Updating it now I'd take out Lady From Shanghai considering it seems to be delayed...that and My Blueberry Nights will probably both be on a 2007 list...
To add to this list, HARD CANDY (trailer was awesome), THE PAINTED VEIL (great cast), STORMBREAKER (sounds like a fun, bond-ish flick with a surprisingly good cast), CASINO ROYALE (now that the trailer came out and was pretty good), NACHO LIBRE (the trailer in front of M:I3 hit all the right spots...wasn't a fan of the thirty minutes I saw of Napoleon Dynamite, but this looks hilarious), and RUNNING WITH SCISSORS (this was on my very very first list but for some reason I forgot it when I compiled my list last time - but it'd be on it for the great cast)
Otherwise, the list would be pretty much the same minus the ones already out that I've seen and minus the Da Vinci Code...I'll get around to seeing Silent Hill, American Dreamz, and V For Vendetta on DVD...
Eragon

Eragon. All out.
(I'm not sure it is still in the 2006 year still, but from the looks of their website and such it looks like they'll be ready for their December release date)

THE FOUNTAIN looks fantastic, and I will definitely be checking it out opening weekend. I have higher expectations for this film than anything else this year.
also:
X-Men: The Last Stand (even though I don't like the title)
Superman Returns
and I'll be sure to check out that new M. Night Shamayalan(sp?) movie, as I love The SIxth Sense, Signs, and Unbreakable, although the Village was a bit of a dissapointment

SOUTHLAND TALES

You know, I don't know what I was thinking leaving this movie off my list === I wasn't excited about the first one, and had a blast; I wasn't excited about the second one, but was completely blown away - After seeing the second one on network last week, am all about paying props to the 3rd X-Men movie. How can I miss a chance to Kelsey Grammer playing a mutant anyway?
I'm also somewhat amused by Nacho Libre. Jared Hess showed a sensibility in his stories that I really liked in Dynamite, and I'm banking Nacho will have the same warm fuzzies - plus with Mexican wrestling. He does it for the kids, man. Haha.

A Scanner Darkly is the only movie that I have great expectations. Superman and X3 could be good but the hype just isn't there for me as far as X3. It was never there for Superman though. I'll see it but not looking to see a masterpeice. But who knows, it could be good. O and I will defanently check out clerks 2. Sounds like a bad idea but it could be good.

Went and saw The DaVini Code the other day. Dire truly dire. It was never going to work on screen. But the best bit was actually the trailer for Pirates 2. Really great - Davy Jones playing an organ with his tenticle beard. You had me at organ!
I agree with a lot of these posts for movies but may I add another?
LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE
Check out the trailer. Low key, black humor and some great actors.

one movie that no one has mentioned and that i think will be a sleeper hit is PEACEFUL WARRIOR. The trailer onwww.apple.com/trailers (http://www.apple.com/trailers) looks very promising. Victor Salva has proven to be a solid director and the source material has a huge cult following. If any movie is the sleeper hit of the summer it will be this one. Even if it doesn't get huge this summer, I could see it having lasting power on video and tv. it looks a lot like the next Rudy, although more philosophical. and btw, the trailer alone is a work of inspiring art. i havent watched a trailer this much since the garden state trailer came out.
PEACEFUL WARRIOR
also...Zodiac, Miami Vice, Alpha Dog, POTC 2

Thank You For Smoking was pretty damn funny. I'd reccomend it.
A bunch of the movies I was excited for all are looking worse and worse. I've had a sinking feeling about X-Men 3 ever since I read an interview with the new director ("more focus on comedy" /shooting self in the head smiley), and after watching that seven minute preview, the special effects look good but the dialogue is SHIT.
Pirates of the Carribean 2 I was never particularly excited for, it's just gonna be a Johnny Depp vehicle full of Johnny Depp overkill.
I saw a trailer for Clerks 2, jokes sucked compared to the first one. Laaaaameee.
The Superman Returns people are wisely playing their cards close to their chest and avoiding a bunch of bad press before the movie even comes out. I'm not saying it's gonna be bad, I have no reason to and I hope it's good, I'm just saying whether it's good or bad it's probably best to play it safe.
I've heard between little and nothing about these new Lynch, Scorsese, and Eastwood movies. Hope they're good, I'll have to look them up. I'm a fan of Philip K. Dick, I haven't read A Scanner Darkly but I'm gonna try to before it comes out. Hope that's good, as well.

Thank you for Smoking the book was - if you'll excuse the pun - smoking.
Yeah X-men without Singer feels a bit like that fake chocolate. As much as they say it tastes just like the real deal - It ain't! And with all dreaded dance of the directors you know whos been in charge of the script - studio executives. Sneaking in while the baby has been left unattended and visiting all manner of indecenties upon it.
I saw the new trailer for POC2 yesterday and I will have to beg to differ. There was wood. For me anyway.
The Superman trailer was there too. On the big screen it looks the business. Spacy chewing up scenery in spectular fashion. So I'm with you in having high hopes for the big blue boyscout.
Scanner Darkly looks totally trippy. Another one I will be keeping my eyes peeled.
Sage advice all around mate. Apart from the POC2 dig but I'll probably eat my words on that one.

Don't forget DePalma, Scott, Soderbergh and Fincher's new flicks coming out. looks like we'll have one hell of an awards season later this year... For now, the only two movies I'm looking forward to this summer are Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and A Scanner Darkly. Maybe Cars, if it gets good press.
