I own the Nightmare on Elm Street box set DVD and tho I love it to death can't pass the fact that the 5th chapter in the series is censored, I'm talking bout the death of the rich bitch, the one Freddy feeds with her own insides in a baby chair or something.
Did any1 of you noticed that? Many fans bitchs at the uncensored Friday the 13th DVDs but this pissed me off way more as I don't find those missing scenes to be that gory or explicit...

I've seen the uncut death scenes in Part 5. At the recent Monster Mania Con 6, I got a "A Nightmare on Elm Street" megadisk with a lot of deleted scenes and promotional stuff for all the movies. The motorcycle/eating deaths are so much better. Maybe in the late 80's with the MPAA's frustation with slasher movies, I can understand. But, there's no reason why they shouldn't have re-inserted them in the boxset. They are a little tame compared to the horror movie gore/violence of today.

Never was aware of cuts on the Nightmare films, thanks for the heads up. I've owned this box set for some time and as 'complete' as it was, I thought for sure they wouldn't have discluded anything like this. Ah well.

Thats just messed up, I never understood why they do stuff like this, same goes for the Mangler on DVD, I owned the Uncut version on VHS and it was released by New Line then, but the DVD just has a side by side comparison of the rated cut and the unrated cut, and of course the new DVD is the rated version, cant understand how that could happen when New Line did both releases

Having seen those two scenes (thanks from me too Cronos!), I say it's a crying shame they were censored in the DVD release! Shame on you New Line!! Shame on you!!

You would think so wouldn't you? But no, fucking New Line sees fit to censor them for the DVD release! Thanks New Line!!

Well, if part 5 was any good I might have cared, but whatever New Line, cut as much out of it as you want.

Can I rant here for a minute? Why do we go so apeshit over a few bits of gore missing? We either like the film or don't, a bit of blood won't change that (as evidenced by the Saw uncut editions). I personally hate it when it really adds nothing and is added back in. I prefer director's cuts that fully change the movie.

I understand your position but there are those of us (me included) that LOVE gore and HATE it when it gets cut from an otherwise excellent film. That's why "we go apeshit over a few bits of gore missing". We "gorehounds" HATE censorship like that! It (censorship like that) makes a film more "tame". We (gorehounds) don't like "tame" films!

I'm a gorehound myself. I just don't understand the drooling over a little bit of missed carnage. I could understand if that's all you're watching the movie for, but I prefer to be entertained. All the Nightmare movies did that to some extent and even watching the uncut version, I feel the versions currently on DVD and in the box set (or whatever future set that may come out) are the definitive versions, as those would not affect the film in the slightest. I actually think it would be more distracting than enchancing, as using the Saw uncut edition as an example (which I finally watched), the extra spurts of blood really just felt like "Oh, come on!"

This is just a theory but, maybe (just maybe) people aren't concerned with the gore missing? Maybe it's they want (to see) the Director's original vision of the film (A "Director's Cut")? As in, the Director meant for there to be more gore than what's in "the versions currently on DVD and in the box set"? Therefore with "the versions currently on DVD and in the box set" they feel they're not getting the whole film? Maybe?

I guess we're just gonna agree to disagree. I understand your point, but I don't think you're understanding mine. And to be completely honest, I agree with some director's cuts (when they actually are the director's restored vision) but I hate an unwarranted "uncut" version that the director has no bearing on. I'm not sure which the director intended for the Nightmare films, if they did then I'd be more than happy to see their "vision" restored, but I feel the films are complete enough and don't feel like anything's missing when I watch them.

Actually I do understand your point. "I hate an unwarranted "uncut" version that the director has no bearing on" too. To conclude, I'd say part of the reason I want "the original theatrical version" re. # 5 is nostalgia. I saw that version just as soon as it came out on VHS (I wasn't "into" NOES back then therefore I didn't see # 5 in theaters, even tho' I could've) all those years ago and have fond memories of it. Therefore it's what I want on the DVD (or at least New Line should give me and others the option of choosing it).

Well, that is crap. I never really noticed this kind of thing as I have the Laserdiscs, so there you have it. Total bummer though. Now I know why I didn't go out of my way for the DVD's.

Sorry to say it isn't. I don't remember if there is an option to watch the deleted scenes on the bonus disc or not but they have not been inserted in the movie. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Hmm, I have to ask though, why in the name of Hell would they even cut anyt5hing out of these movies? I am so glad that I have the lasers. It makes no damn sense. It's like Paramounts refusal to release Hellraiser III's unrated version to DVD. I do not understand this logic at all.

Because of the MPAA and other watch dog groups. They deem what is inappropriate and no film distributors want to release a movie with an NC17 rating (X during NIGHTMARE 5's release) theatrically because it will sink like a stone. This I can understand but I would have hoped that the dvd releases at least would be unrated. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I want to se the directors vision of the movie as it was ment to be, not a MPAA cut thing that some idiots decides will be cut for some reason... Itīs like watching a painting by Da Vinci that is censored...
If the release an extra gory cut (Alien VS Predator) with cgi after the release just to sell more DVDs, then itīs another thing, because this wasnīt the intention in the first place.
i donīt really care if there is alot of gore or not in a movie. I just want it to be complete as the filmmakers intended it to be in the first place...
