Check out this: http://imdb.com/title/tt0420609/

Next C'mon Hollywood should be how they're runnin out of ideas. Isn't it a bit early for a Capote remake?

I think this was filmed around the same time as Capote, or at least shortly after, but United Artists completed that one first and got it rushed out so Hoffman could win the Oscar.

I feel sorry for Doug McGrath.

I kind of feel sorry for the guy. If the movies were filmes at the same time I can understand this. And if they were I kind of feel sorry for the director. No matter how good the film is it will certianly pale in comparision to Capote. Poor guy.

Wow, it has turned from original films to watching the same one over again, but with a different actor.
I will make an oath that when I'm a famous film director, I will not make remakes, but only originals or adaptions from books.
P.S. I'm really serious.

I knew there would be another Capote movie, but not one with the EXACT SAME PLOT...

But Daniel Craig as Perry Smith?...Kick...ass.

Why is everyone calling this a remake. If it wasnt intentional becuase it was made at the same time it isnt a remake

Exactly, I explained it a couple of posts back, it just has the unfortunate release date, even though both versions were filmed close together.

How exactly is Daniel Craig supposed to play a short mexican guy? Toby Jones CANT compare to Phillip Seymour Hoffman's performance, it was too good and so was Capote.

In any case, it's a great story and maybe, here's hoping, McGrath will tackle it differently. Maybe with a wider viewpoint.

Full of big names too--

Sandra Bullock
Daniel Craig
Gwyneth Paltrow
Sigourney Weaver
Jeff Daniels
Isabella Rossellini
Hope Davis
Peter Bogdanovich

He is working from a different book than the one used on Capote and it had to be something special to attract these names (or maybe Bullock just wants some indie cred). Bogdanovich has nothing better to do.

I too feel bad for the film.
It was filmed a little bit earlier than Hoffman's Capote, and it kind of sucks it fell upon this, but I'll still be seeing it.
The cast is amazing.

Saying these people had bad luck is the understatement of the century.

A lot of the backlash against this movie is harsh, with a headline on the IMDB boards saying "this movie should be scrapped".

It's like this movie's existence impedes on Capote's. As if they've received the ultimate screen document of Truman Capote, there yelling "We have our Truman Capote movie!".

Yeah, backlash will be harsh, and it's not fair to the filmmakers. That's just how the business works.

Indeed.

I think this movie has potential to be great, I mean wow, look at that damn cast! But jesus christ at how unfortunate everyone involved in the production of this film is. Man.

Well, with some digital technology, they can turn it into a different film....perhaps a romantic comedy.

It's like Tombstone and Wyatt Earp, but not really. Tombstone was about Tombstone and Wyatt Earp was about Wyatt Earp. So basically I don't have a point really.

But Val Kilmer fuckin rocked as Doc Holliday. I think everyone can agree with me on that.

They should just try to recut the movie / add scenes to turn it into something different.

That's one hell of a cast, though...But nobody will be able to beat Hoffman as Truman Capote, one of the best performances of the past decade or so. Also, with all due respect to Sandra Bullock, she STILL has never proven herself to me as actually worth anything more than her name, where was Catherine Keener is extremely talented, has two Oscar noms under her belt, and played Harper Lee with such compassion and sincerity.
