View Full Version : The Easiest $100 Bet I EVER Won!

First off, I'd like to thank Ender for his thread in the Rant section entitled 'Empire Strikes Back: Persistant Misquote' (http://www.joblo.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=100034). Basically, the very infamous quote "Luke, I am your father" from The Empire Strikes Back, is wrong. Darth Vador NEVER says Luke. He says, "No, I am your father". I myself have always thought he said Luke, and apparently a lot of people think the same, except the die hard Star Wars fans.
So... I was at a party Saturday night and brought up the quote. The conversation quickly turned into a heavy debate, which turned into a bet. The bet went from $20, to $100... Since a couple people were involved. I was 100% confident that I was right, because I just read Ender's thread earlier that day. So we got on the internet and looked up the quote. Of course I was right, but they apparently thought the internet was 'lying', and wanted more proof. So I got in my car and ran over to Hollywood Video where I work, and rented the damn movie. When I got back everyone was patiently waiting... By that point I was getting nervous, because everyone (and I mean everyone!) thought I was wrong.
We skip to the scene, and there's Luke clutching on for dear life... and Darth Vador says, "NO.... I AM YOUR FATHER". Haha! People were screaming and beer cans were flying! The guys I made the bet with shook their head in awe, and paid me on the spot. I my friend, am now $100 richer all due to a simple, yet facinating bet. Boo-ya!

I had a pretty heavy debate about it with my friend the other day. He was also convinced it was "luke...i am your father"
But i soon proved i was right, but no money came from it :(

fascinating story Lindsey. I'm surprised the people paid up too.. usually bets are "just talk" people don't take those seriously but hey, that's good to know they kept their word.

Wow considering that would be like working 12 hours at Hollywood video. Good job I applaud you.

Cool story, Lindsey. I wish I could outsmart people on movie-related topics and win money for doing so.
Congrats on your $100 bet! Spend it wisely. ;)

Yeah, I was gonna say, how about cutting me in on a little of that action? :P
Seriously though, that's hilarious, that story just made my whole day. That's even better than the time two of my old roommates made a bet whether or not Alec Guiness was in the movie GOTHIKA (we all told Mitch that he was dead and looked nothing like the dude in that flick, but he wouldn't listen..).

You should bet them that the famous quote "Play it again, Sam" in Casablanca is wrong also. I wish my friends were stupid enough to bet against me when it comes to movie quotes.
