Ever since I first started playing Resident Evil games I have always wondered what it would be like for it to be a film, now I am finally going to find out. This movie is going to blow all of the last years horror movies out of the water no questions asked!

look man ... resident evil isnt out yet..

So i think this post doesnt belong here , it belongs in the Upcoming movie talk...

Well, it's almost out, so I think it'll stay. As for the subject at hand, I think it'll do well, but it probably won't be #1!

I'm not gonna see it, and I can't say that I know anyone else who would. It seems awful, it won't be number 1, or even in the top 10, and as a movie, I have my doubts that it'll totally suck horses ass http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

There is a thread already in the Upcoming Movies board about this movie. You ought to check out.

I don't even think it'll be the #1 movie of the weekend. Ice Age will make way more money.

This movie has a lot more potential to be bad than it does to be good, if you ask me...

Wow! You really think Resident Evil will beat out Episode II, Spiderman, and Lord of the Rings?

LOL... i agree with ya Irene .. movie expert do u think that resident evil will really beat ..

lord of the rings: the two towers
star wars episode 2 : attack of the clones
spider man ( which isnt good as the other 2 , but it will be better then Resident for sure )

Blade 2 ( i think it will be better )
james bond ( in Nov. 2002 )
Minority Report ( the trailer looks more encourging then resident)

and there is alot of the other movies that i dont really remember now... so dont get ur hopes too high , it can be fun movie not GREAT amd #1...

I love the Resident Evil games they're are my favourite series of games but I have to say I'm not too optimistic about the film.

I think over here in the UK it will go straight to video.

Um... i dont think so. I think this will flop critic wise, and do good at the box office. DEFENITLY NOT THE BEST MOVIE OF 2001!

Entertainment Weekly already gave it a C+
(2 stars) and (6/10)

My bets for the best films of 2002 will be so far:

- panic room
- minority report
- harry potter 2
- lord of the rings 2

(note... VERY EARLY PREDICIONS!)

*LOL* This movie will be even worse than the previews make it out to look. A woman jump-kicking a dog, gimme a frickin' break. I loved the games, but this script is in no way going to cover the depth or the atmosphere of the games.

...you've got to be kidding me. The little exposure I've had to this movie makes me emberassed to be such a big fan of the games. Face it, RE went straight to hell as soon as they axed Romero. They've taken everything that was good and entertaining about the games, destroyed it, and replaced it with pointless "ALIEN wannabe" filler material. Not number one of the year, not even number one this weekend.

The universe in which Resident Evil: The Movie is the no. 1 movie of the year is the universe in which I don't masturbate chronically.

It won't even be #1 this weekend. Third place, at best, behind ICE AGE and SHOWTIME.

Weren't there nasty spiders in the video game? I remember my husband playing the original one...

All I can say is its going to rock and I can't believe im saying this but I agree its going to be number 1 but only for a month or two but it will tie with blade 2. But only for 1-2 months.

Number one film of the year? You mean box-office wise, or quality wise, or both?

Cause to answer your question, and this is fact now: It's not going to be either.
The film looks trite - Bloody awful. Completely cold, un-involving crap of the highest order, and certainly something that's not ever going to get my money in the cinema or in the video shop.

The biggest film of 2002 will definately be Attack Of The Clones and the best will be The Two Towers.

While I find the thread title hilarious, it has gotten all positive comments from IMDB users who got to see sneak previews.

I dont really trust reviews from fans who saw sneak previews. A few of them are calling this the most shocking movie they have ever seen. We both know that that is b/s or that they need to go out and see more films..

This is exactly what i was thinking as soon as i saw the title for this topic.
You are crazy to think it will beat those three in the box office. It won't beat Minority Report either in my opinion.

It won't even beat out Ice Age. I think it does have potential to be good but definitely not number 1

ARRRRRRRGHHHH!!! I can't take this unjustified Resident Evil bashing!!! See the damn movie before you shit on it people!!! Jesus fucking christ...

Everyone who has seen it has seemed to enjoy it (except for professional critics of course). Even Joblo and Arrow dug it.

So take that all you critics and, AICN talkbackers, and most of all, ak and Max!!

Anybody that thinks that this movie is going to be number one movie of the year is crazy. It won't even be in the top 25 films of the year. It'll be lucky to be in the top 50.

The point is that the topic of the thread is "Resident Evil will be the number one movie of the year". The reason people are shitting on the movie is because the aforementioned statement was really implausible.

Whether or not RE sucks is a different story. http://www.joblo.com/ubb/smile.gif

What psu said is pretty much accurate. Even if this is going to be a good movie (which it's not, but let's just pretend for a few moments), it couldn't possibly be that good, not "beat out Two Towers, Attack of the Clones, and Spider-Man" good. It's just not going to happen, period.

I think what he meant was it will be the number one Horror/Action film of the year with regards to box office. It could easily,i don't see any competition really, except Blade 2 which other shmoes pointed out already.

Come on,no matter how obssesed i am with the Biohazard universe, even i would'nt make such a statement that it wil be the number one film of the year. There is no possible way, unless parents,a good number of them decide too take their children to see rotting flesh, lickers, and mutated homicidal doberman pinschers instead of the gag inducing cutesy CGI of Ice Age,just to name one.

If it breaks a 100mil(which it should easily),i'll be ecstatic(US domestic gross, that is),as i'm sure the producers and director will be too.Overall, the International gross should really put this over the top and make it a bonafide hit.

I'll tell you who is going to"eat"this up the most besides the US,Japan(they're rabid fans over there)and the UK.

To the Shmoe that asked about the Spiders, they were in every incarnation of the videogame series,a staple you could say,but they are not in the film. They will be in the second one though.

box-office wise, maybe 2 or 3, but w/ Ice Age opening the same day, it wont reach #1. quality wise, i think it'll be a Ghost of Mars type movie, where u love it or u hate it

We're predicting how we think it will be. That's what the point of this thread is. Sometime tells me that if somebody said it looks like a good movie, you wouldn't say "wait until you see the damn movie before you judge it!"

I dont really see what you are bitchin about anyway... If we think a movie looks like shit, arent we justified to have a negative opinion on it? Did you bash Crossroads, A Walk to Remember, and/or Spice World before they were released? If so, wouldn't that be the same thing? (If you didnt have a bad opinion of those movies prior to their release, then I do not know what to say..)

Regardless, specifics do not matter...hopefully you see my point. My point is that if there is justification behind disliking something, then it is perfectly valid.

Lazycouch
03-13-2002, 11:10 PM
Resident Evil is a lot different than Crossroads and Spice World.

For one thing, the reason why I've bashed Crossroads is because, well, for one thing, its OUT, and another thing, everyone I know who has seen it has said its shitty.

Resident Evil is not out yet. And almost everyone who has been to a test screenning (except critics) has enjoyed it. So I predict almost everyone who sees it when it's released will enjoy it.

You guys are just in a sad state of depression because you know that most movie goers go to movies seeking entertainment and not all of them are into foreign and Indie flicks like you are. So that's why you come and bash every "Hollywood" movie that comes out.

MovieFreak15
03-13-2002, 11:28 PM
That is such a load of crap! Have you not seen the preview for this movie!? I mean I don't like indie films and artsy fartsy crap either, but this just looks like a crappy movie. However, what I think has nothing to do with how other people think about it, but there is no way in hell that this film will be a big hit. The best that it could possibly do is $75 million. That is if it is very lucky. The only thing that I am attracted to the movie is the fact the Milla Jovovich is really hot!

Not evan close to being the number 1 movie.

Just in the weekend that it opens there is movies that will make more money then it. ICE AGE will make more money then it and so will SHOWTIME. Lord of the Rings II will make more money and so will SPIDERMAN and MINORITY REPORT. The movie that will make the most will be STARWARS:EPISODE 2.

Evan movies that dont have huge budgets like Panic Room will make more money.

look, none of the critics will like Resident Evil. The plot has holes, the characters are not developed and lots more stuff that critics look for in movies will not be to their liking. The only people who will like this movie are fans of the game and fans of great action/gore movies.

Hey everybody,

Great and really interesting topic, people seem to be really passionate about either loving it or hating it, it's really exciting. I, personally, haven't seen the movie. I will. The games are bad ass and scary as hell and I personally think that it looks like a great and fun movie. Just because the critics don't like it, well, who gives a shit. Movie lover may be off base when he/she/it says it's going to be the number one movie of the year (clearly it's going to be Star Wars Ep II) but I think it will appeal to the fans of the game and horror fans.

Now saying that people, from what I have read, are really going to this with an open mind, and that's great. I really got burnt when I did that with Lord of the Rings, I didn't read the books just really wanted to see a good movie. I didn't like it. In fact I believe it is the worst movie I have ever laid my eyes upon. That being said, I went in with an open mind.

With Resident Evil being based on a game it's going to have it's core base but it's also going to have to appeal to the game virgins. I will see it because if it's even related to the games it's bound to rule some ass.

And plus Milla is nude...

Great action movies don't have plotholes and undeveloped characters. Some good ones do, but the great ones (like T2, The Matrix, etc) don't.

Resident Evil doesn't even fit into the good category if you ask me...

i thought Res.Evil was terrific, how ever, there is NO CHANCE IN HELL THAT IT WILL BE THE #1 MOVIE OF THE YEAR!!! that said, this movie was awesome, so far my favorite movie of 2002.

ok, just read the rest of the topic starters actual post, and it sounds like he ment the #1 horror movie, like Dellamorte said b4. im hopin that it will be, cuz i loved it!

I'd hardly call the characters in "The Matrix" developed. Although the characters surely weren't developed in Resident Evil I didn't spot any plot holes--what were they?

18 million isn't bad for a film with no star power playing on fewer screens then ICE AGE (#1) and fewer screens then SHOWTIME (#3), that carries a R rating and does not have mass appeal--most of the audience would have to be fans of the horror genre or the video game to go see the film. 18 million isn't bad at all!

I thought they were pretty well developed, but the story was that movies strong suit.

As for plotholes in RE (I think Lazycouch was the one who mentioned that there were some), I can't think of any off hand, but the story isn't really complex enough to have many. The good part of the story was everything that was in the games. Everything else was Alien ripoffs if you ask me...

Why is everything an ALIEN rip-off? There were films JUST LIKE ALIEN long before ALIEN came out. Old, B-Movies had the same kind of plot so ALIEN is just a rip-off of them.

Well, I said RE is an AlienS ripoff. A bunch of soldiers and a couple of civilians trapped in a compound trying to get out, constantly running away from large gatherings of "monster" things. This is the story in both RE and Aliens. Also, the computer is like the Queen alien...
