Ok, so... who was the fuckin killer?
They play up this mystery... and then we're supposed to decide? Or its the boyfriend guy?
What the hell happened? Im very disappointed... I had high hopes for this one...

you never find out who the killer really is...at the end they killed the boyfriend and blamed it all on him but as you see at the end the killer is still in the house
its part of the reason i love the film so much

I just cant stand how mysterious it is... only to leave the viewer with no payoff or answers. It works in some films... but not here. I wanted to know damnit. At least a few more clues to go off of. Maybe not the exact identity... but some clues.
And damn... when... MADDDD SPOILER...
They got Margot Kidder... my interest was completely killed. I love her.
ENDSSZ!

I just think it was some kind of sick person who just did away with his family (what your mother and I must know is...) and saw a way to hide in the sorority house (start of film). Being a sick bastard, he decides to mess with these girls as well. It is nice to know sure, but really in reality, not everyone in the world knows who their attackers/killers are?
Most people never know or their families and that makes one uneasy, and I think that is what the movie was trying for.

I like how they don't give anything away about the killer which makes it scarier and more suspenseful. He doesn't need to have a motive, he's just psycho.
Some people think "Billy" killed a baby and this "Agnes" he keeps talking about is a sister or friend.

Well we don't know the killer's identity but it was not that important and it makes this film even more creepy.
Yeah I also heard something about Billy but I did not remember wether he was shown or not.

I think the dude was beaten as a child ( most likely worse ) and he developed some sort of alternate personality to deal with it . I agree he prob was fresh off some multiple homicides , so he figured he would take refuge in the sorrority house , possibly his childhood home , he came back to excorcise the psychological demons .

Sorry to insult you, but I honestly thought it was terribly boring. Most other "atmospheric" movies (City of the living dead, The Beyond) were also difficult to pay attention to. I guess it just didn't trip my trigger.
I'd give it a 4/10

To be honest I am a huge slasher/giallo fan so maybe sometimes I must admit I am a little bit subjective.

Slasher doesn't bother me, after all my favorite movie is Scream, but I guess giallo is somewhat difficult for me. I thought Suspiria was grossly overrated, as well as some 'legendary' Fulci flix. The story lines just weren't doing it for me. I also thought these movies were kind of slow paced. Agree?

Now why am I not surprised???
There is a commentary with John Saxton that was good.
I like to watch this movie every year around Christmas.
Good movie to me and it does not need a remake.
You know, pacing is a key to any movie but I do not think the majority of older horror films are too slow.
I am used to them because they are from my time.
I read that since we are in the generation of ADD the attention span is the length of the commercials between shows. My friend who is a teacher has to plan her lessons in 15 minute increments now, because of attention spans the majority of our youth possess.
Recent/newer horror films are around 90 minutes or less and very fast paced, with lots of flash and predictability and this is what a majority is used to and anything beyond that poses a problem sometimes for certain individuals. Times change and things have to change with it or they become misunderstood.
Even watching these quick movies at the theater I am amazed at the lack to sit back and enjoy. So many young people are fidgeting, talking. The poor things cannot even go 90 minutes without using a phone.
It is funny how a social object such as the cell phone, at the same time can be antisocial.
Anyway, I really do think it all has to do with different generations and what we grew accustomed to in our world and environment in the times we were rooted.

Well, as for your fast-paced argument...I find that is mostly true (I can handle Dawn of the Dead (remake) whereas I find the first one by Romero extremely boring). BUT, to argue the point, The Blair Witch Project is fairly slowpaced and that is one of my favorite movies, as well as the original Night of the Living Dead, which is also slow paced. On the other hand, I agree with you about other kids in theatres n stuff. I couldn't watch The Hills Have Eyes (remake) with out one of them constantly talking or giggling or something distracting. Most kids don't know what real horror is anyway....
Not to mention, I loved some other 'slowpaced' movies: Auditon, Texas Chainsaw (first), The Shining, etc.

I really liked t he languid pace the film had. At times it feels more like a mystery than an actual horror film. The character are also surprisngly well w riteen for a horror film. Also the movie managed to be creepy through its really stylistic direction such as the fantastic kills that are done off screen or the great eye shot. The calls are also insanely creepy. Then we have the brilliant ending where after we learn that he killed the girl in the park we realize that he hasnt been caught, we dont know who he is, and the final girl will die. The phone ringing as the screen fades out is chilling. Brilliant horror film that actually feels classy and has substance to it.

Horror films that build up slowly to the eventual bloodbath/all-out scarefest I appreciate more. Many of my favorite horror movies are ones that don't give you gore and chills every 30 seconds. The growing suspense is all worth it. Like Parliese, those movies are from my time as well.

It's me Billy ( Blanks ) , the guy who would go on to market the Tae Bo exercise regimen , with an infomercial even scarier than Black Christmas .

I don't know man, that Tony Little is pretty damn scary with his infomercials. :D
