What do you guys think of the news about a Nightmare on Elm Street Prequel? I would rather see another sequel since we all know Freddy's backstory!

We already know Freddy's backstory. We were told in the original Nightmare. Then we found out about his birth in Nightmare 3. Then we saw what was described in Nightmare 3 in Nightmare 5. Then we saw inbetween in Nightmare 6.

We already know everything about him. Do something new.

I feel the same. I for one would much rather see a fresh/original Nightmare than a story we have already been told.

They should totally do it on Freddy's forgotten younger brother, Leroy.

The used car salesman.

DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNN

Nah, seriously though, a prequel's not a cool idea - as stated above, we were already more than filled in with NOES 6 providing more insight then I thought was possible in order to be fully enjoyed.

If the prequel was done properly, I would have no problem with it. But you already know they just wouldn't do it right, so I say don't bother.

Besides, the TV show depicted his trial, and did a crap job. So why beat a dead horse?

Showing the origins of something in a film, especially in a horror movie, is never a good idea.

Let's backtrack for a moment to Part 6. Terrible movie? Yup. But that isn't the point. The point is that they actually tried to show us how Freddy was able to come back in the dreams of the children of the parents of those who killed him, the ones on Elm Street. Why do we need to know? Why do people care? Why do they think it's something that we want to know? It takes a huge chunk of the mystery out of it all.

Freddy Krueger, child killer, kills 20 small kids, get arrested, gets off cause of lack of hard evidence, then the parents of Elm Street track him down in the boiler room he works and lives in, douse it in gasoline and lead a trail of it out the door, light it up and watch it burn until the fire burns out itself and when they go in, they find his skeleton. Donald Thompson hides his remains in the trunk of an old junkyard car. His wife Marge keeps the glove in her basement. Ten years later, he is resurrected into the And it's that simple.

Nobody cares about the "origins" of his return that way cause it really makes no difference. Nobody is scratching their heads wondering why, the same way nobody scratched their heads wondering what made Michael Myers go crazy and kill his sister and so forth. I could rip further into the belly of Part 6 and expose the rest of it's holes in the Freddy mythology but that's another topic for another time.

Anyway, add on to the fact that the children he killed back before he was burnt alive were around the ages of 10 or less. There is no way a film will ever get to show that, unless they take kinda the Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer route (in that they'll leave most to the imagination) but that doesn't sound too good here either. A prequel to ANOES wouldn't work either way, and I wouldn't want it to. We don't need to see "the beginning", we know about it already, and it almost kills me how much they think we are desperate to see it on film, as if we must see everything before our own eyes to fully grasp it.

Prequel or sequel, I don't care. As long as there isn't a remake, do both but please NO REMAKE.

I don't know how I feel about a NIGHTMARE prequel. I don't really need to see how FREDDY got his powers or anything (the explanation in FREDDY'S DEAD was pretty bleech). On the other hand if done properly this movie could really make FREDDY sinister again. I would just like to see another straight sequel. Just give me the true NIGHTMARE 7 already. I've been waiting since 1991. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.
