1. Jean Michel Basquiat in BASQUIAT
2. Sidney Bechet in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles
3. Winston in BROKEN FLOWERS
4. Peoples Hernandez in SHAFT
5. Bennett Holliday in SYRIANA
6. Hal Wilson in Homicide: Life On The Street
7. Al Melvin in THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE
8. Chris in CRIME + PUNISHMENT IN SUBURBIA
9. Jaworski in EYE SEE YOU
In the Christian Bale thread, someone mentioned his hilarious (although menacing) "Peoples" role in the SHAFT remake, so I thought I'd give one of my favorite character actors his due. He deserved a Supporting Actor nomination this past year for BROKEN FLOWERS, where he played off Bill Murray (another Oscar oversight) like a champ!

Belize, Angels in America.
Superb actor. His talents were wasted in the overrated Syriana, but he strikes just the right chord in each and every chameleon-like performance.

By far the best thing he's done, and damn is it GOOD. Angels in America was so amazing... probably the best mini-series I've seen. Well, not as good as Band of Brothers, but close. And his performance(s) there were absolutely fantastic. He's done some other good work, but nothing particularly major - I loved him in Syriana.

If you hadn't done this today, I was going to
1. Belize, et. al. in Angels In America
2. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Boycott
3. Hal Wilson in the Blood Ties three-parter on Homicide: Life On The Street (where he first came to my attention, holding his own with Andre Braugher, James Earl Jones, Yaphett Kotto and the late, great Lynne Thigpen...)
4. Peoples Hernandez in Shaft ("Tiger Wooooods! Tiger Wooooods! I li' heem!" but as Shaft said, he wouldn't know Egyptian wool if Pharoah himself handed it to him, the knockoff wearin' motherfucker :D )
5. Al Melvin in Demme's grossly underrated remake of The Manchurian Candidate.
6. Howard Bingham in the also underrated Ali. Great work in a small but pivotal role.

Guess I now have to rent ALI, ANGELS IN AMERICA and BOYCOTT!!! Glad someone else appreciates this underrated actor.

He and the great Terrence Howard carry Boycott, portraying American heroes Martin Luther King and Ralph David Abernathy, respectively, and while he doesn't really carry Angels in America, his presence is the glue that holds the thing together.

Finally got around to watching Cadillac Records tonight and this guy knocked it out of the park, again, with his superb portrayal of Muddy Waters.

What an actor. Always leaves a hell of an impression.
1.) MLK Jr. -Boycott
2.) Jean Michel Basquiat -Basquiat
3.) Peoples Hernandez -Shaft (for my money, this deserved an Oscar nom)
4.) Bennet Holliday -Syriana
5.) Colin Powell -W.

He (along with James Cromwell) was the best thing about Oliver Stone's W. And he's excellent in Syriana as well.
He's good in the James Bond movies as well even though he's severely underused.
But Syriana and W. are his best performances and roles.

Wow, where did you dig up this old fossil! I haven't done one of these threads for a living actor in ages! HaHaHa! Yeah add Colin Powell to my list and we've got an even 10!

Very good actor. I've only seen him in a few films though:
1. Peoples Hernandez - Shaft
2. Bennet Holliday - Syriana
3. Mr Dury - Lady in the Water
4. Howard Bingham - Ali
5. Felix Leiter - James Bond Franchise
I gonna have to see that MLK movie, and I look forward to seeing his first Oscar nominated performance (it's bound to come).

Admittedly, I haven't seen that much of his work. I was thrilled when he was cast as Felix Leiter in the Bond movies, and he did not disappoint - even in limited screen time (his delivery of the line "Does it look like we need the money?" is classic).
I also enjoyed him in Broken Flowers . . . thought he was great in that.
