I'm unfortunately very behind on my Michael Caine movies...I haven't seen Alfie, The Italian Job, or Sleuth, which I realize are considered to be his essential movies. But from what I have seen, his performance in Hannah and Her Sisters was amazing. It's one of my favorite movies ever, and it's filled with great performances, but none quite as great as his. He was also terrific in The Quiet American, which is a movie more people should see.

Recently, he's done some absolutely brilliant work in The Cider House Rules (great, underrated movie) and The Quiet American. And of course, his work in Hannah and her Sisters is legendary. But, as some previous posters mentioned, I, too, am not that big on my Michael Caine movies, and have to admit that I haven't seen most of them, at least not enough to form a proper list.

You guys really need to see Educating Rita. He's very subtle. He really underplays the role, to great effect.

John Milius' THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING is an engrossing adventure with Caine in fine form. One of Sean Connery's best nonbond roles too.

The Man Who Would Be King is a John Huston film, actually.
