What are your opinions on this action God?

For a film director, he makes some lovely $100 million dollar advertisements for us. Shame he lets actors get in the way of his quest to find the most saccharine visuals this side of a Werthers Original ad...The only one worse than him at the moment is Simon West.

He`s a real ...(censored) in interviews, but he really is an action God.Most of his actions are in my A-list of actions and movies , as general. The favest of them is "Bad Boys".It`s simply a classic for action/comedy.

Here are his movies for those of you who don't know.

Bad Boys - 7/10
The Rock - 8/10
Armageddon - 9/10
Pearl Harbor - 9/10

He also does some uncredited camera work.

The only one of his movies I thought was even halfway decent was Armageddon. The rest of them are pure shit. I guess I'd have to give him a 3/10.

I get kinda pissed off by the success he's met with, considering that his movies tend to be feature-length rock videos. The guy's a hack.

THE ROCK = 6/10
ARMAGEDDON = 4/10
PEARL HARBOR = 5/10

(I saw parts of Bad Boys, tenative rating: 5/10)

Michael Bay is incapable of making a solid quality movie. His talent lies in making big budget awful movies which reel in the millions.

I personally think he's great. I love his movies. Along with Paul Anderson he is one of the most underrated directors around.

Bad Boys - 8/10
Armageddon - 8/10
The Rock - 8/10
Pearl Harbor - 7/10

I like Michael Bay for the sole reason that he makes probably the best "mindless-Popcorn Movies" in Hollywood right now, or, at least, the most entertaining. He has talent has a director, but he just chooses to show that talent in a different form then, say, Steven Spielberg does. Most people hate the guy because they think his movies suck, which, I don't think should be blamed on him as a director. He does his job, people should be blaming the actors and the writers for how bad the films are. Sure, a good director is one that can bring the best out of his actors, but, people need to stop and realize that some directors aren't as good at that kind of stuff as others are and that, by no means, makes them a "hack". Many people have admitted that the action scenes in his films are quite good, but maybe they don't realize that the reason those scenes are good is because of Bay's direction. He thinks them up and Bruckhiemer makes them happen the way Bay wanted them down. Talented director? Yes. One of the very best working today? No. He's kind of like George Lucas. A great visual director, but, one that has a hard time at bringing the very best out of the actors he has too work with. You try bringing the best out of Josh Hartnett, Kate Beckinsale, and Martin Lawrence. It's easier said then done.

Armageddon (6/10)
Pearl Harbor (5/10)
The Rock (6/10)

Averages out to him being mediocre or slightly below.

I wish people would really stop piling so much shit on Michael Bay... the guy is a solid action director and while his movies are dumb and predictable beyond belief, they are good action movies.

Bay just wants to entertain people, and in my book, he does it nicely. I don't mind the flash and bang in his films cause it's fun.

He does his job well. Though I wish he would have eliminated PEARL HARBOR'S pointless third hour, which was unbereable.

I don't know if you read my post, but, I think the writers and actors are more to blame for the grades you gave the films.

How can some of you slam the Rock? Its one of the best action films in years, I consider it as a classic 90's in-your-face action flick!

Bad Boys 7/10
Armageddon 8/10
the Rock 10/10
Pearl Harbor 6/10

I think the problem with Hollywood is directors like Paul Anderson, Anderson is assigned to Alien vs Predator too after completing such films as Resident Evil, Event Horizon, and Mortal Kombat. I guess its just me but those creations don't deserve an honor like that from FOX, but again that's me. Anderson is somewhat of a director like Bay too, he likes pure adrenaline action above all else and doesn't care much for gore/blood. The difference is Bay is much more proven and has done it alot better with style!

Bay used to be a commercial god and won MANY awards for his commercial work...personally i like his movies but most of all i LOVE his style of directing and think he is one of the most underrated directors in hollywood today also. Whoever said writers and actors are to blame for people hating his movies and I completely agree.

Bad Boys - 4/10
The Rock - 8/10
Armageddon - 7/10
Pearl Harbor - 5/10

He can direct action sequences superbly, but Pearl Harbor pretty much proved his shortcomings as a director on every other field. Of course, the script for Pearl Harbor was utter shite, which didn't really make his work any easier. But the attack scene was great, obviously the best part in the movie, which once again shows that the man can do action sequences, but not much else...Maybe he'll prove me wrong later on.

I have no idea why so-called "popcorn movies" are referred to as such, because I have popcorn with every movie, big or small, bad or good.

I like him. I think he has a flashy, music video style that makes the whole film seem like a trailor. It's very exciting. Now, that doesnt do much for story or potential attatchment to the characters but it makes for great eye candy and sometimes that's what I want. And I did some gratuitous weeping at the predictable endings of both ARMEGEDDON and PEARL HARBOR. I just HATES it when pretty people die!!!!! ha.

I think he's a totally overrated, horrible director. He's only made one movie that wasn't awful (The Rock)--everything else has been shit.

Micheal Bay is pretty underrated. Most of his movies are ok. He makes good action movies, but Pearl Harbor was a breakthrough for him. It was an excellent movie. If you really sit down and watch it without any preconcieved notions or stupid expectations, then you will find that it is very good and not just a popcorn movie or a action movie that wants to be more than that. It is. I really dont see how people can hate it so much. I can see how you might not like it because of the prominent love story, but people that say it deserves raspberries or a 3/10 must have fallen asleep!

He's somewhere in the middle. It's nice to see a director who is directing films mainly for their entertainment and having fun with it. But he could improve his movies in a lot of ways to make them better.

Armageddon - 5/10
Pearl Harbour - 8/10

Will see The Rock and Bad Boys soon.

"He can direct action sequences superbly, but Pearl Harbor pretty much proved his shortcomings as a director on every other field."

I couldn't have said it better myself. The problem is that he can't do human stories. He's great at doing action (although I'd like to know how much work his second unit does...), but he can't do anything when it comes to bringing out any kind of emotional attachment.

Just look at Bad Boys and The Rock. Pretty much nothing but action, no real story. Then Armageddon and Pearl Habor came around, which were total disasters when it came to love story/emotional moments.

I don't think the actors are the problem. He's always had actors that could prove themselves to be at least fairly good (although they didn't prove it in his movies). The biggest problem is the script, there's no doubt about that. Decent dialogue would have saved Pearl Harbor, and good dialogue would have made the loves story involving. For Pearl Harbor's script, I'm sure NutraSweet threw up, and Randall Wallace chose the worst from that throw up to write the thing.

In any case, if Bay sticks to action, he'll be fine.
