I know Vanilla Sky is a remake of the 1997 movie Open Your Eyes, but I'm just curious on which one you think is better. Which one has better acting? Which one has creepier or tense scenes? Or, even though they're almost identical, which one is more confusing?

Yeah, but that thread has been gone for a long time.

I haven't seen Abre los Ojos yet, so I have no comment. I hear it's better than Vanilla Sky.

I wouldn't consider that a feat?!

Same here. But I honestly can't imagine any movie being worse than Vanilla Sky

OPEN YOUR EYES (1997) Alejandro Amenabar (A)
VANILLA SKY (2001) Cameron Crowe (B)

I have seen and loved them both... it saddens me to see all the Vanilla Sky knocking,ah well.

Open Your Eyes- 9.5/10
Vanilla Sky- 9.5/10

I can't decide which one I actually like better... if I had to pick, I guess Open Your Eyes....barely.

I've seen them both. I loved them both equally. When Abres Los Ojos came out I was dragged kicking and screaming to a movie-theatre (because it's patronised by pretentious tosspots, Psychocandy will know the one I'm on about). I left and immediately knew it would be remade because Hollywood is mostly movie-making by committee - they take a good idea and kick it to death so that it emerges a pale shadow of it's former self. At the time I said Fincher should re-make it, but then I heard Crowe wanted to do it and, having just been to see Almost Famous, thought that the guy could do whatever the fuck he wants - he's earned it. Long story short, Vanilla Sky is as good as I could have hoped for, like a cover version of a song that is better in some places than the original (think Radiohead's version of Nobody Does It Better - not perfect but pretty decent all the same).

Open Your Eyes is the superior movie. Not just because it's the original, but because it's better directed.

They're both the same thing... same story, same characters, only the actors and the setting are different. Really, I find that if you liked ABRE LOS OJOS you'll like VANILLA SKY just as much, and viceversa.

The only differences? VS explains the plot in more detail and it has Cameron Diaz in what I consider a horrible performance.

Other than that, they're both good movies in their own right.
