POLL.

While the The Exorcist & Rosemary's Baby are undoubtedly the most popular of this type of horror subgenre, my personal favorite has to be Alan Parker's surreal supernatural film noir Angel Heart. You have Mickey Rourke at the top of his game, De Niro in one of his best post-Raging Bull roles, a blood drenched sex scene, the sinister atmosphere, some of the most memorable movie deaths (most disturbing because they were all offscreen), and that ending............by far one of the most chilling conclusions I've ever seen.

THE EXORCIST is clearly the best film of the bunch, but I think it has been established over the years that the Regan character was possessed by a demon, not the Devil himself. So I went with the original OMEN flick.

Good thread and good input on The Exorcist. I still voted for it, its my favorite horror film and definately the scariest in this genre.

Definately The Exorcist.

Though The Devil's Advocate and Fallen are great too.

Although in Fallen, I think it's just a demon. Not the devil.

I know I'm in the minority but I also really enjoyed the Arnold Schwarzenegger flick End of Days. Gabriel Byrne was awsome as the devil.

Urgh first of all I need to say I actually hate the Exorcist now. I mean when I first saw it I thought it was overrated and pretty boring and I never really got into the whole thing. But now I actually despise it because everyone else seems to love it but I can't see what makes it better than, say, the Omen. People running out of theatres out of fear my ass!

Anyway that over with, I'd say Devil's Advocate is my pic here. Can't beat Pacino! Omen and Rosemary's baby coming in close too.

The Exorcist

Gotta say it didn't particularly scare me, but I think along with The Shining, it's the best made horror film of all time.

I actually haven't seen Angel Heart, but I voted for Rosemary's Baby anyway since it's my favorite horror movie of all-time. The Exorcist is a close second from these choices, though I have to say, none of the others really did anything for me, not even The Omen, which I found to be really cheesy. I guess I'm not that big a fan of this subgenre.

The Exorcist (Although it was the demon Pazuzu no the devil) ;)

More underrated gems with Satanic goings-on (since Hannibal initially wanted recommendations):

DAMIEN-OMEN II (an overlooked sequel w/ a dynamite cast)
EXORCIST III (scary as hell!)
THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK (I know, its a horror-comedy...but still worthy!)
BLACK SUNDAY (Bava's best!)
MR. FROST (Goldblum at his creepiest)

And if you can locate them, a few made-for-TV movies:

BAY COVEN
RACE WITH THE DEVIL
SATAN'S SCHOOL FOR GIRLS

Seventh Sign

I voted for Devil's Advocate. But Seventh Sign comes to mind as well.

FALLEN has nothing to do with the AntiChrist. Its about the evil spirit of the wilderness, Azazel.

I might haveto go with Rosemary's Baby.

Ah, fuck it, I love em all!

But we're forgetting the Exorcist 3 and the other Omens. (all very good)
