requiem for a dream shouldve been nominated for best picture, but ellen burstyn was nominated but f*cking julia roberts took the prize. i thought ellen burstyn really shoulve gotten it. jennifer connelly and jared leto also deserves nominations at the very least...

i was also dissappointed in the fact that monster's ball was nominated only for actress :T

o well, you cant get EVERYTHING... right?

Donnie Darko and Memento got no lovin' at the Oscars. And I certainly agree with Requiem for a Dream.

Alright fine, there are many others that have been overlooked by the academy... but "Memento" is the most recent one yet, I think.

TMR might have had good visual effects, but it was probably overlooked for that because the rest of that movie (and The Mummy) were both huge steaming piles of turd. Honestly, just bad, bad movies.

The Talented Mr. Ripley and Black Hawk Down instantly come to mind. As well as Casino, Se7en, Requiem for a Dream, Ed Wood, Taste of Cherry, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, Memento, Gods and Monsters, Three Kings, and Rushmore. There are more, though.

- Despite how many films I just listed I, believe it or not, still have a high amount of respect for the Academy. I mean I can't hate them for not nominating the films I liked because it is their choice and not mine.

Star Wars (this is better than any Woody Allen movie)

The Elephant Man (this had more emotion than Ordinary People)

Raiders of the Lost Ark (its better than any other action-adventure movie out there)

Moulin Rouge (the Academy doesn't see how hard it is to make a musical nowadays and to succeed in making good)

A Clockwork Orange (i liked the French Connection but this should've won

2001 (this epic not even getting nominated what a shame to the Acadmey)

You Can Count On Me's Laura Linney should have won Best Actress instead of Julia Roberts.

I could go on forever, but I won't so I'll list two or three that most people don't talk about.

Tim Robbins- The Shawshank Redemption
Jimmy Stewart- Rear Window
Sullivan's Travels

Agreed! Laura Linney was vastly overlooked for You Can Count On Me... as was Mark Ruffalo.

I'm still pissed that Scorsese has yet to win Best Director. Hopefully, he will finally get some recognition for Gangs of New York.

Baz Luhrmann absolutely desevered at least an Oscar nomination for Moulin Rouge last year. I think it was the best direction of the year 2001.

The Coens are always overlooked in the Best Picture department...they should have won at least once. As well they should have won more for writing and Joel should definitely have won for directing The Man Who Wasn't There, what an amazing film in all aspects of it. Also The Royal Tenenbaums got zilch from Oscar, so I say fuck you to the Academy, apple polishing pricks.
