There he is as Dan Whitney, the guy who went to private school in Nebraska.

That's him?!
He looks and sounds COMPLETELY different!

Sure looks different, but his "comedy" sure is the same...sucky.

Most people do not know that Larry The Cable Guy is a pure gimmick comedian. He did this whole thing as a get-up and it appears to be paying off.

He actually did a great job in Cars, managing to make his character both funny and endearing.

Why all the hate? He's not all that bad.

Next thing you know. You'll be telling us that Pee Wee Herman is really some guy named Paul.
I like Larry The Cable Guy alright. I like Jeff Foxworthy and Ron White better. I've seen both of them live and they were great.
Anyway, I say good for him for finding a gimmick that brings the money in.
And was the best character in Cars. Go Mater! Git-R-Done!

Good analogy on Pee Wee Herman and should shut up those who call Larry a fraud. Seriously, if anyone thinks he was really a cable guy or a total boob redneck and is now upset or think they've uncovered a great secret is well um...
Some of the comments from the losers at that site cracked me up. Oh my! He "panders to a demographic" to make a buck! Alert every single president and politician in the history of the world of this revelation!
Lou Costello wasnt stupid in real life?
The Three Stooges was all "schtick?"....
TELL ME IT AINT SO!!?!!??!?!??!?!??!!
Only in America.....and sometimes Canada

I believe it was an interview for CARS in which I read that Larry was a character, so I don't think he's a fraud or anything. He's actually a smart guy for switching from the lame-o act as seen in that footage to creating a character that's still raking in dough.
Match point, Dan. Good show.
I'll go along with the other pro-Larry sentiments here. The man is a normal guy underneath it all and he's laughing all the way to the bank. He took his act and made it a franchise. His debut album is the highest selling comedy debut ever. Hell, if someone farts and it sounds like "Git-er-done", Larry gets a check. On top of that, he is one of the nicest guys in the business, which can't hurt his fanbase, either.
If anyone has read some of his older commentaries on his website, then you know that he makes some pretty funny points. I think that these commentaries are great comical moments. If he ever decides to use them in his act, he could lay out an entire new set of recordings. And I'd bet he could sell millions of them.

I dont like him or his comedy. Nothing to do with him "acting" as Larry the Cable guy or anything. Just never clicked with me.
I used to like Jeff Foxworthy though.

A guy whose main schtick is talking about his wiener going out of his butthole among other things is not a comedian I can really enjoy

This guy's a douche, pre or post Larry the Cable guy. And comparing this idiot to the Stooges is fucking sacrilege!
Peace.

I've read some stuff from his act and it was incredibly hateful and racist.

"What the hell is this the cartoon network? The Republicans had a muslim give the opening prayer at there (sic) convention! What the hell's going on around here! Is Muslim now the official religion of the United States!... First these peckerheads ( Ironically, "peckerhead" was a derogatory word slaves and their offspring used to describe white people) fly planes into towers and now theys (sic) prayin' before conventions! People say not all of em did that and I say who gives a rats fat ass! That's a fricken slap in the face to New York city by having some muslim sum-bitch give the invocation at the republican convention! This country pretty much bans the Christian religion (the religion of George Washington and John Wayne) virtually from anything public and then they got us watchin' this muslim BS!! Ya wanna pray to allah then drag yer flea infested ass over to where they pray to allah at!" "...now look, I love all people (except terrorist countries that want to kill us)..."
Um...great points there

He totally does.
He latched onto a stereotypical character that he knew would make him money. The sad part is, there are many people out there who act just like that stereotype, and there's his audience.

I hate him, too. And I hate the simplistic us-versus-them mentality displayed in the above quote. It reminds me of the "carny justice" episode of Carnivāle. Those fucking carnies really pissed me off in that episode, but it's scary how so many people seem to share this mentality.

I agree, of course. However, this isn't really what I meant. Most of his material is not racist or hate motivated. He picks at political correctness, frivolous lawsuits, censoring holidays, etc. And he made some good points. Racially motivated comments aside, he has some great material. People just have to be willing to read it all to find the better ideas.

Sorry, but that's totally wrong. Nobody I know who loves his act behaves that way. Most people are mature enough to know it's an act and nothing more.

Sorry, but you've picked one of the worst things he's ever written and ignored everything else just to make your point. If you hate him, then there's not much I'm going to say that you'll listen to. However, you show his picture as a private school prep, then you bash his act knowing it's an act. Is there anything that he can do right?
This isn't government mandated reading, it's comedy. People are so wound up on what gets said by some guy playing the redneck schtick that they forget that it's all an act. People in their right mind aren't going to go out and burn a copy of the Koran because of something this comic said. The man isn't like he is in his act, nor is most of his viewing audience. Most people aren't ready to go run Muslims out of town after 9/11.
Beyond all of that, what I did mean was just what I was telling Raoul Duke. I agree that there are some rather racist comments being made and I don't agree with them. But there is so much more to his material than just this. And he never uses the racist remarks in any way on the shows or in the films. Many if not most of his commentaries aren't racially motivated at all. Some make for great reading. You just have to be willing to take the bad comedy with the good.

Hey, Carlos Mencia isn't Mexican! His real name is Ned Holness, and he's half Honduran and half German! Oh wait, that's all an act too. His fans are right minded enough to see that he's not like that. Plus he makes some good points!

I don't think it's totally wrong. Maybe nobody you or I know loves his act behaves that way, but there are people out there who do. We don't want to think they do, but it's out there.

Fair enough. Obviously, the culture is out there.

ComeNightfall, you pretty much summed up what I wanted to say. Not everyone is in on it being an act, I've had to explain to different relatives and friends that Larry the Cable Guy is just an act. If people think he is serious, I don't see why he would be so racist. Even if it's part of his act, there's nothing in what he said that kind of points that out. It just looks like flat out hatred. And if people honestly believe this guy to be genuine, he shouldn't be out there promoting stuff like that.
My first comment was too asshole like so I decided to expand on it
Edit: I read what you said, I just disagree with it. You'd be surprised at how many people seriously believe in this personality of his. That's my main problem with him, but I never found him funny. His great points you talk about are just common sense to me mostly, and a lot of his stuff is really crude in an unfunny way (no matter how hard I tried, I could never find the line 'you ever fart so hard your back cracked' funny. Or his moley relative. Or his wiener out the butthole bit). His material is pretty much like a semi-average comedian you would see working the clubs, but he makes it work on people with his delivery.
