This just in:
TV Producer Aaron Spelling Dies at 83
Friday June 23 9:56 PM ET
Aaron Spelling, a onetime movie bit player who turned to television production and created a massive number of hit series, from the vintage "Charlie's Angels" and "Dynasty" to "Beverly Hills 90210" and "Melrose Place," died Friday, his publicist said. He was 83.
Spelling died at his home in Los Angeles after suffering a stroke on June 18, according to publicist Kevin Sasaki.
Spelling's other hit series included "Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "Burke's Law," "The Mod Squad," "Starsky and Hutch," "T.J. Hooker," "Matt Houston," "Hart to Hart" and "Hotel." He kept his hand in 21st-century TV with series including "7th Heaven" and "Summerland."
He also produced more than 140 television movies. Among the most notable: "Death Sentence" (1974), Nick Nolte's first starring role; "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble" (1976), John Travolta's first dramatic role; "The Best Little Girl in the World" (1981), which starred Jennifer Jason Leigh.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Spelling provided series and movies exclusively for ABC and is credited for the network's rise to major status. Jokesters referred to it as "The Aaron Broadcasting Company."

Poor guy. Guess the idea of the Lohan/Diddy show was just too much.....ok, that was uncalled for and I'm sorry:(

At least he was successful rather than poor in the end.

Aw. Even though he's produced his fare share of crap (7th Heaven anyone?) I was still a fan of his. I was especially a big fan of Beverly Hills 90210. One of my biggest guilty pleasures.
RIP :(

He has some rather good credits on his resumé, as well (the fine Aidan Quin telefilm An Early Frost, which kicks Philadelphia's ass six ways from Sunday, and Family, the 70's drama show come to mind, immediately.)
Even if you just count his other stuff, he entertained a lot of people over the years, myself included. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
A lot of the things that Roger Corman is overpraised for apply to Spelling, as well, if not better.
I always liked the man and I'm sorry to see this.

Man was a genius, pure and simple.
Some of the best TV programs to ever hit the air.
Sad to see him go.

It's never good when someone who's respected as much as he was in the biz dies. The man created some of the best shows ever.

I'm shocked that this is not on Drudgereport or on the AP breaking news. I heard it on the TV news and then when I went to find it on the internet I coudn't. (EXcept it was here!)
I think this is going to be hard on Tori Spelling cause her last marriage kind of broke them apart for the past 8 months or so. I heard that she had just gotten togehter with him last week to introduce him to her new husband but that the mother wasn't there. Then Tori said something like it's unfortunate that my mother and I had this relationship but you just can't pick your family, or something like that. That might make for an awkward funeral for the family. Also, I wonder who is going to get the bulk of the money. He was soooooooooo rich! He seemed like a nice guy. I dont' think I've ever heard anything bad about him.

This is a shock. I knew he had a stroke, but I thought he would recover.
He created some really entertaining shows that I grew up watching, and I enjoyed one of his last creations, the NBC show Titans, even though those idiots at the network canceled it.
My condolences go out to his wife and son, but I say I don't have any real sympathy for Tori. She acted like an ass these last several months. I hope this tragedy will change her attitude somewhat and bring her closer to her mother.

Damn man, he's in the hills in the sky. Loved the guy's legacy, loved his shows; I always considered him the Godfather of Guilty Pleasure TV.
The guy went out on top, no doubt.
What is this with the Lohan/Diddy show? I've never heard of this.

Just schtick I was running with on a Lohan thread.
Posted it before I heard he'd passed.

There was a very good quote from a BBC clip about Spelling, "Watching his programs, you may not have broadened your mind, but you can be sure that you were entertained".

Did Corman and Spelling ever work together. For some reason I can see that. They did a later 90210 episode centered around a Roger Corman film festival, and Corman guest starred, but did Corman ever direct anything Spelling produced, or write or vice versa.

Not according to the joint ventures feature at the IMDB, although it didn't catch the episode that you mention, so...maybe it missed one.
