AICN Gives First "Pirates of the Caribbean" Review!

Hey everybody,

As most of you know, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest", comes out next week on July 7th and Ain't It Cool News has just viewed the film and Knowles gave it an extremely positive review. Here is a piece of what he had to say as it is a big review:

PIRATES 2 is one of the best summer entertainments I’ve seen in a while, and it manages to improve on the first film in every way. It’s smart, it’s funny, it plays out on an epic scale while still putting character first, and it builds to a conclusion that will have audiences twisting in agony as they have to wait for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 3: AT WORLD’S END next summer. Basically, it’s everything fans of the first film hope it will be, but it’s also good enough to win over people who were unconvinced by that first movie.

That is so friggin' awesome and I am so excited to see it next week but for this week, "Superman Returns" is calling me for Tuesday night and I can't wait. I'll definetely be seeing pirates next week for sure.

Smart? I mean, I liked the first one, but it was anything but smart, and Dead Man's Chest looks to be just the same, on a "grander" scale.

This is one of my most anticipated movies of the summer along with Superman Returns and Clerks 2. It's nice to see that it is getting good feedback from early screenings.

It sounds pretty promising...

and it's better cause it's a review by Moriarty, not Harry Knowles, as he's just about the only reviewer I have any kind of respect for at AICN.

Then again, I think Moriarty's review of X3 was way off base in comparison to my own reactions anyway...

Awesome behind the scenes long trailer for POTC 2 featurette. The sets in this movie look gorgeous. They went all out for this one. These two weeks (Including Superman) have been my most anticipated weeks of movies in a long time.

Access Hollywood had a big thing on Pirates yesterday, and they showed footage from the premiere.

I'm itching for July 7.

Nice!!! I can't wait for Pirates 3 to come out. Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors and reprising his role once again as Cap. Jack Sparrow is going to be freaking awesome this July. I loved the first one and I'm pretty sure I'll like this one even more. Pirates 3, I believe, will also be as good as the other two, hopefully. First good review so far and I hope to read many more when the movie comes out.

This movie is my last hope for the summer; I haven't given a summer movie an 8/10 yet (unless you count The Proposition). Not that the summer flicks have been bad, they just haven't been that good.

Moriarty got to sit in the POTC2 editing room with Bruckheimer not too long ago. I wouldn't say he is exactly objective. I don't trust any of the AICN guys.

Indeed, I'm not going so far as to say I trust him ;) but I do have more respect for him than I do the other AICN reviewers.

I know he got to sit in the editing room but like he mentioned - he's done it before for another movie (Tomb Raider) and still managed to rip it to shreds. But more than anything, I just find his reviews tend to be more rational and thought out than the other AICN people - not a lot more, but enough that I'll actually check out his reviews here and there to see what he thought.
