After I watched the Bravo Top 100 greatest comedies, I decided to make my own list since that one was completely terrible. The problem I'm having now, though, is finishing. I've looked at AFI's top 100 greatest comedies, and after viewing it, I decided not to get a whole lot of help from it since it had "The Graduate" in 9th, and I don't see that as being much of a comedy. Here is what I have so far.-

95. The Blues Brothers
96. Office Space

99.
100.

This isn't a finalized list yet, of course. I still need a few more movies to put on there, and a lot of what I have in the 80's and 90's I don't feel are good enough for the top 100. Once I have the 100 movies that I'm satisfied with, I will then revise some of the rankings I've given. If anyone has suggestions, please help me out. Also, I don't have dates for a few movies on there, so if anyone knows what they are, I would surely appreciate the help. Thank you.

Clerks was made in 1994.

Just saying that, cause it's the only movie on that list not to have the date next to it.

Snatch was pretty hilarious, but it's dominantly a crime flick and not a comedy, and I wouldn't put it on the list of top comedies. Also, it may be a personal grudge but I don't even think THere's Something About Mary should even be on the list, or at least not so high. Otherwise, it's a damn fine list if I do say so myself.

Which one is better, "Swingers" or "Old School?"

Thank all of you for your opinions. Don't stop now, I like suggestions. I have used some of the movies that have been suggested. Here is a look at the updated list. It is complete, but I will still make corrections if any suggestions are given, and I feel they should have a spot on the list:

Stripes - 1981
Roxanne - 1987
Planes, Trains and Automobiles - 1987
Trading Places - 1983
The Blues Brothers - 1980
Rushmore - 1998
Office Space - 1999
Swingers - 1996

I'd actually put Swingers, Office Space, The Blues Brothers and Planes, Trains and Automobiles much higher than they are. I'd also add Dazed and Confused to the list, but that's really a matter of whether or not you like the movie, because it's either one of your favourite movies or easily forgettable (one of my favourites, personally).

I can't believe I forgot about Dazed and Confused. It should definantly be on the list.

Wet Hot American Summer is hilarious. I just stumbled upon this movie a while ago and it is definitely one of the funniest movies ever.

If I were to put Dazed and Confused on, what should I take off? Meet the Parents maybe?

I was just going to suggest this. One of the few comedy movies in recent years to hold up strong after repeated viewings.

This one is tough to find, but the Stella Shorts movie (from the guys who made Wet Hot American Summer) is great, they're separate on this site but watch them HERE (http://www.collegehumor.com/movies/Stella/)

Yes indeed. I was never the biggest Ben Stiller fan, and while it's nowhere near as painful to watch as Meet the Fockers, I still really didn't enjoy Meet the Parents. But that's just my opinion, so I dunno.

Take off Meet the Parents. That, and its sequel, are two of the worst comedies that have been dished out in recent years.

I didn't feel that Meet the Parents was all that great, but I saw a couple of lists that made a big deal out of them, so I decided to put it on, but I now think that was a mistake. I am replacing it with Dazed and Confused, but when was it made?

You can check the release dates for every movie ever made with a very quick search at IMDb.com, TrombonerDude. It'll save all the trouble of asking schmoes around here, who just go over to IMDb and check for themselves if they don't know the date by heart.
