Silver Surfer to be CGI.................

Silver Surfe might be CGI in the Fantastic Four sequel

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I was really quite pleased and excited when they announced that the Silver Surfer was to be in Fantastic Four 2 (or, uh Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer), however I pictued him as being played by a human. Of course a heavy amount of CGI would be necesary to make the character work and look right, but I never expected them to tinker with the idea of them doing all CGI. The only way this would work is if they hired an amazing image caputre actor, such as Andy Serkis, so the Surfer's actions and movements look right, and so that his emotional range as a character is also palbable. Personally, I say go with a real actor.

I agree with Spike; how could the movie benefit from making the guy all CGI? It's not like he's the Hulk who's shape and size changes (is he?).

Just cast an actor and cover the guy in CGI (like they did with Iceman in the last X-Men movie). I think it would not only help that character out, but also the four actors who play the heroes, most of whose acting ranges haven't exactly been that impressive and might struggle "acting" alongside a character who isn't physically there.

I even think that the second point you make is the most important one! I mean only the guy playing the thing is a decent actor (although i liked the guy playing the human torch)..
And i seriously doubt btw they could get serkis to play this role...

I think it's ok, A guy in silver make up wouldn't look right.

Well, I'm not talking covering a guy in make-up; but have an actor there one the set and then use CGI to create the character.

I would love that too, but did you see the first fantastic four, emotion was that last thing they were worried about. I don't have high hopes for the second one either. It's clear that fox is going the family route with the fantastic four franchise.

I laugh at everyone jumping the gun here and making these assumptions. This is the full quote from Tim Story "The Surfer will be a new CGI design being developed especially for the movie. It's going to be incredible."

No where does it mention the idea of there not being an actor cast for the role he just said the CGI is going to be kickass and I'm very happy to hear that!

But nowhere does it mention that there WILL be an actor. :p

Maybe we did jump the gun a little - but this is Tim Story we're talking about; I haven't exactly been impressed with his resume thus far.

If Silver Surfer will be in the sequel that means Galactus will appear too?

It's been hinted that they will not show him in the sequel and set it up with a cliffhanger ending, but as of right now no one knows, shooting begins August 15th in Vancouver expect more info around then.

I foresee this going very very wrong. A full cgi character based on a human shaped person has never been done before to my knowledge.

Sure we have Gollum, Dobby, The Hulk... but none of those are shaped like a human. Which will make the cgi much easier to criticize.

What the fuck else would he say? The CGI is going to be poor or mediocre? He is the fucking director, and he's a hack, so I find it hard to take comfort in his words.
