Yes, one of the very few R2 boxsets that Ive wanted, that I actually own and don't just drool over. It's in a sphere, and it's great. Wonderful extras, worth the money

I own the R2 sphere set as well. I think if you are a real horror fan, you owe it to yourself to get a region free player so you aren't limited to only region 1 releases.

If I'm not mistaken, chances are slim to none for you seeing any kind of Phantasm box set in region 1 as a couple of different studios own the rights here.

Yeah you HAVE to get an all region player to get the best in horror....US gets the shaft because of all the rights crap these companies keep throwing around

I own this set as well and its an awesome set, all DTS surround with lots of bonus features for everything, highly recommended

I picked this up along with the Hellraiser Box, Shaun of the Dead and The Descent from the UK, Hellraiser Box is the only place you can get the Unrated Cut of Hellraiser III on DVD and all in the set have DTS sound, same with the Descent, has the original (good) ending and DTS sound as well, the US release will not have DTS, I'm a big sound junky as well as horror fiend and if I can get DTS somewhere I'll get it there :)

You could not be more right. I picked up a region free DVD player a couple of years ago just so that I could import the UK Shaun of the Dead release, before it was released here. It was a great choice. Like you I have added the Phantasm Sphere, the Hellraiser "Box" set, and The Descent. As well as a few other DVDs that I could not find in our market.

It will always be region free for me.

This could quite possibly be the coolest looking box set ever made! I'd really love to get my hands on this. I'm going to keep my eyes peeled at MM8. How much did you guys pick up your box set for? Just so I have an estimated price. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I got mine for under $40 bucks on Amazon UK. It truly is much sturdier then the Hellraiser Puzzle box set, but it is still just plastic so be careful with it.

Thanks for the info. I suppose $40 for four films isn't bad at all. Especially considering that I have never seen any of the sequels. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Don't try to find a region-free DVD player, see if you can hack your current one to play any region DVD. That's what I did. And then I went and bought the Sphere :)

Yessum , do a code search for your dvd player , you may be able to use a handset hack to make it all code and it may be able to play pal or ntsc . I have the Philips 642 . It plays whatever you put in it , just about . I can play any disc form any region , regardless , and they are about 50 or dollars , that is if your current dvd player cant be modded with a hack . By the way , i also picked up the phan sphere when i was in the Uk , it looks great , even if the box got damaged on the plane :( . It has tons of extras and it sounds great ( not too mention how amazing the actual sphere looks ) , it was nice to see part 2 again after all this time , and with a Dts 5.1 mix for all the films , you can't go wrong .

I know... I'm ashamed and embarassed to admit it. I saw the original back in like 89 or 90 when I was a kid and really liked it. As the years went on though I never saw it again and couldn't even remember the name of it. All I could remember was the scene at the end with Reggie stuck in that room getting sucked into that hole. I didn't even know the movie had one sequel let alone three. It wasn't until five years ago when I joined this board that I was able to find out what movie it was and go buy it. The only other movie in the series that was released around here was OblIVion and I figured I should see them all in order instead of skipping to the fourth entry. Part 3 has just recently been released but Part 2 still hasn't so I might be waiting a while. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

Yeah you definately need to watch them in order to stand half a chance of understanding what's going down. Resist the temptation!!

I know... I get the feeling with this series it is hard enough to understand what is going on even if you DO see them all in order. So skipping entries definitely isn't an option for me. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I´m one of the Europeans here on the board and also owns the sphere edition.
What I also own is a German Phantasm box which is like the Alien Quadrilogy in comparisionwith 6 discs
It has this as special features:
Phantasm (2 discs) 16:9 english 2,0, Trailers, deleted scenes, slideshow, behind the scenes, commentary
Phantasm 2 (2discs) 16:9, english 2,0, convention documentary,
trailers, slideshow and A WORKPRINT VERSION!!!
Phantasm 3 (1 disc) 16:9, english 2,0 , trailer and an expanded workprint version of part 3
Phantasm 4 (1 disc) 16:9, english 5,1 , trailer.

With the box followed a signed card from Coscarelli and Schrim

It´s a great supplement to the sphere box :) and the Phantasm Quadrilogy was limited to 2000 pieces...
:D

Yeah, what the hell is the deal with releasing only part one and four on DVD in the US, but not two and three? I bought one and held off on buying four until I could find two and three and discovered they weren't on DVD. Who came up with that bright idea?

I and III came out on DVD on Tuesday. The rights to II are owned by a separate company and they don't seem to want to go ahead with a DVD release.

Well, I just ordered 3 and 4 on off of deepdiscount.com. I know they'll probably come out with a box set out here when 2 is available and won't be sold seperatly and I'll regreat it. All well. I can just download 2 from a torrent or something and save it to my computer. Time for some Tall Man action...wait, that didn't sound right.

Can someone please tell me why they rereleased Phantasm 1 and 3 in America but still have yet to release Phantasm 2 here on DVD ever?

Is there some sort of legal trouble they're having with that movie or something?

It is owned by a different company. I believe they probably don't have much interest in doing a dvd release for it. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I just watched Phantasm for the first time a couple of weeks ago as a blind buy of the new Anchor Bay disc. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and how much Coscarelli and company wanted to get this made, it comes through on the screen. The 80s score, the sphere, the tall man, the Reg..it has quickly become one of my favorites and I wonder how I managed to go this long being a genre fan and not seeing this.

Suffice it to say I broke down and ordered the Sphere box set from xploited. I figured I would be able to watch on my computer, but I also have a hacked dvd player that will play all regions..my question though is reading through this it looks like a lot of you did the same thing and hacked dvd players to play all region, but I don't see any mention of pal to ntsc conversion..is this something that is no longer necessary with newer sets? If so, I may be enjoying the rest of the Phantasm saga on the big screen, but if not, I'll be happy enough with the computer and what is probably the coolest DVD box set yet.

Well you guys in the states are about 2 years ahead of us Brits as far as television technology goes. I'd say about 95% of the tv's I sell are compatible with NTSC playback, so I'd imagine your tv's would do the same with PAL.

I tested it out today and it worked! Saves me a few bucks on buying a converting DVD player. My TV is fairly new but not bleeding edge, about 2 year old LCD Widescreen, and it plays the PAL Phantasm box great off a regular hacked dvd player.

Cool mate I'm pleased for you. I would've been very surprised if it hadn't have played! PAL to NTSC conversion and vice versa appears to be a given spec with LCD tv's these days.

To clarify further and to not get anyone's hopes up, I did some research and found out pal to ntsc conversion was an unadvertised feature on my hacked toshiba sd-3900 dvd player, so I don't know if my TV can accept a true pal signal or not. I will maybe try a burned disc on the PS3 later.

I think your misunderstandng what a hacked dvd player can do , it converts the signal before it's passed to the television , so it doesn't matter what tele you have , whatever output you choose , it will be in that format before it gets to the television . I have mine set to output ntsc , so if i put in a pal disc , the signal is converted to ntsc for my type of tele . It would be the reverse for someone with a pal television set . I also have the region code set to 0 for all region .

Yeah that sounds right. I had this guy one time arguing with me about NTSC video tapes. He said he had brought them back from the states with his NTSC vhs player and needed a tv designed for the NTSC format. I told him it didn't matter whether the tv says it is compatible or not, as long as he connects his vhs to the tv the vhs will send the picture directly to the tv but in a slightly downscaled quality (PAL scans more lines than NTSC so an NTSC picture would seem less detailed?). I said if he tried to play back the NTSC tapes on a UK vhs that wasn't NTSC compatible then it wouldn't work.

I think that's right. We rarely get any questions about NTSC etc.
