SPOILERS

I actually caught the midnight screening, and I understood all of the negative reviews, but I still felt the movie worked...and, which a release next summer, how will the trilogy turn out and is there anything expected, like plot twists, who lives, who dies, ect...

I think it'll be better than 2 but worse than one -- for the simple fact that the entire movie I was honestly thinking, "Man, this would be a lot better if Geoffrey Rush were in it again," and the Hollywood Gods answered my prayers. So now he's a main character again, going againt Davy Jones, who, outside of how he looked, I don't know why he's getting all of this praise...

With how repetative and stale I felt the first half was -- once that three-way swordfight started it was all exciting from there -- regardless of hw believeable it was not...I think the third has promise...

Thoughts?

Pirates 1 - 7/10
Pirates 2 - 7/10

I like the movies, but no more bad guys that can't die. It's getting old.

Yeah, I'm psyched for the third one, but I have only two worries:

1. A real resolution to the story would be super...don't even leave the door open for number four at all. If a number four comes along, they can start from scratch. Not even a glimpse of a cliffhanger, please.

2. It seems like the next movie is going to have a large portion with all the main characters with Barbosa (that's probably when they run into Chow Yun-Fat's character), and I've got a sneaking suspicion this means Johnny Depp's role will be smaller...which, obviously, would suck.

But outside of those, I've got nothing but high hopes.

I don't think Depp's role will be smaller at all. They need to find Sparrow by the end of the 1st act, period. And unlike Dead Man's Chest, I have a feeling that all of the main characters will stick together for the entire rest of the runtime, meaning no cutting away to what's going on away from Depp, and therefore Depp will have as big of a role as he had in 1 and 2. The writers/director/studio would be idiotic to do it any other way.

Either way, 3 is going to be craaaazy. There are so many characters, each with their own unresolved motivation. Damn, I can't wait.

why does 3 have to be do damn far away though. im totaly psyched to see it. i just saw 2, and i liked the cliff hanger useage but the next one won't come out untill may 07.

i like the hard to kill bad guys its a challange and fun to watch. and they would be insane to cut Depp's poart down any, it would cause a full scale riot.

My thoughts exactly, when they get to the island everything picks up from there.

I was kind of under the impression that Depp is going to start out the movie as one of Davey Jones' henchmen, all CGI'ed up..

I'm sure they'll Disney their way around it -- but that would make the most sense -- I also heard in a rumor off of Wikipedia (so, so reliable, eh?) that there's going to be a purgatory storyline around Depp and Rucsh and what happened to both of them -- so I suppose that would be kind of cool, as long as they're not at a train station with a little Indian girl to talk to...

It's going to be at least the length of 2 I'm thinking -- Norrington's story, which I kind of like, Davey's story, Beckett's story, Chinese Pirates, Bootstap Bill, the wedding, what happened to Depp, the entire Rusch story, and I'm sure I'm missing a lot of obvious ones, plus that's just what we know about a year before the movie is released -- I know a lot of these intertwine, but we still have yet to get a lot of character depth with a few people...

PS -- Does anyone know the release date of this compared to the release date of Spider-Man? Depending when they're both released may mess up the box office for both of them...

Spider-Man comes out May 4th, Pirates comes out Memorial Day weekend, so Spidey will have fair stomping ground before Pirates set sail, but don't forget that gay Shrek movie, which, while most undoubtedly is destined to suck, will suck up box office like a faggoty black hole.

Transformers and Harry Potter don't get off until July, so unless Ocean's Thirteen or Fantastic Four 2 are any better then their previous installments, Spider-Man and Pirates will probably be tied next summer for box office supremacy.

Off-thread topic...

Depending on the date for Shrek 3 -- I'd say, regardless how good the movie is -- it might end up beating everything else, along w/ Harry Potter, just because of the Weekend-Dad appeal to all of these family movies...it'll be a close race though, legit shot at 4 $90 million movies next summer...

HAHAhahaHAHaaa

lol

never the less i don't see Shrek 3 beeting Spidey or Jack Black on that matter, nor do i see Shrek 3 having the boxoffice that #2 had being that CGI/kid movies are getting a little repetitive now and will be even more old next summer.

P.S I can't wait for FF2 it's going to rock hard.

I'd love to say this just hit me while i was pondering...but I actually saw someone else post it on IMDB and, after reading it, I though, "Goddammit! I wish I would have thought of that!" I know it's only the working title or w/e, but if 'At World's End' does turn out to be the title, I feel a double entendre coming about...

At World's End will seemingly refer to the end of the British map or whatnot, pretty much just in the China area with their breed of pirates...which will make for new monsters or curses or w/e else, which will be all fun and dandy...BUT...

Could 'At World's End' possibly also reference after someone dies, like Barbossa's story or what Jack's story turns out to be...could it possibly be about the Afterlife and how they both get back, either by VooDoo or accomplishing a task, or joining Davey's crew...regardless, could this be possible? Then Tia Dalma's quote about traveling to World's End might have a bit more meaning for more than one character...

Like I said, I wish this were my own, personal revalation, but regardless it seems like a good idea...

Fuckin' chinese sea dragon leviathans man. Yeeeaaahhh.

I think it will have a double meaning, to the edge of the map, and to the end of the mortal world. I'm wondering how Richards' character will fit in... Which world's end? It will be amazing no matter what.

Hahahaha, that'd be awsome. I was a bit shocked when I heard about the purgatory idea, but its a logical way to bring in Richard's 'daddy sparrow' story, as he could meet him in the afterlife or something. There is a crap load to cover in the next film if they want a final ending, i mean aside from the main characters I want to see a conclusion for the undead monkey beast, Richard Price and the dog (hope you stayed after the credits of Dead Man's Chest, haha). I'm stoked. The only thing i'm not 100% sure about is Chow Yun Fat, a new villian? Ok, if thats true, than is he an undead or immortal too? Hmmm. I love the idea of him in the third, but doing what?

I heard that theres going to be some all end ship battle at sea with the east india trading company and a british fleet lead by norignton against a shite load of pirates, including Chow, Barbosa, Davey Jones and a ton of cameos of famous pirates like Black Beard and folks... Sounds like the Return of the King kind of battle. Not sure but I can't wait, just hope Jack Sparrow still carries the screentime.

Maybe Chow-Yun Fat can be BARBOSSA'S Tia Dalma character? :p

Chow-Yun Fat is the only mortal who knows how to get to Davey Jones' locker instead of joining the crew?

Kraken vs. Leviathan? HMMMMMMMM?????

It is tons of stuff to fit in.

Barbossa captain Will and Elizabeth to save Jack.
Jack reunites with his father.
Will saves his father from sevitude.
The EITC's plot with Davey Jones' heart.
Davey Jones' plot with his heart.
Chow-Yun Fat and whatever role he will play.
The wedding of Will and Elizabeth.
The redemption of Norrington.
WHATEVER HAPPENED TO JACK.

They'll do it justice.

Not to deny any coolness that the idea deserves -- was the Leviathan Chinese? I figured it was a symbolic Hebrew thing, or maybe it's just a word that's used everywhere...

But, on that note, as shown in the first sequel it is going to be a bitch to kill the Kracken, and obviously shooting it won't work -- so unless Jack happened to kill it before the beginning of the third or there's going to have to be some sort of third party involved that can kill it -- I'd say if we're going to China then we'll see some fun new big serpent-dragon thing...

Perhaps the Luck Dragon...

Eh, I don't know. I think that with everything that heppened in 2, Will might be having second thoughts about marrying Elizabeth and vice versa. With the whole compass pointing all funny and towards Jack, Elizabeth might have realized that she is more like Jack than she had originally thought.

It's my hoping anyway. I hate Orlando Bloom.

take a page out of star wars ( Sarlac monster flashbacks ) , Jack the fembot sparrow is really a nice guy , akin to hand solo ( the rogue with a heart , except this one has some sort of fashion sense and a killer sashay ) , dont worry , he'll be back and as flamboyant as ever , saving the day , lightening up the brit empire, and teaching everyone to get drunk and still walk in an enticing manner . You go girl .
