I have it written down on my calendar for this coming Friday, but apparently, 'Pulse', the american remake of the Japanese film of the same name, has been pushed back to September 8th now.
I know most people probably dont care, but I'm a sucker for horror movies and actually thought it looked really good. Now, after it was originally supposed to come out in March, and got pushed to this month, its pushed back again....I'm eventually gonna care less when it finally comes out.
Way to ruin it, Universal.

I didn't think it looked that bad, for a remake...it probably won't touch the creepiness of the original, but I like Kristen Bell a lot, so this is eye-rolling and frustrating. I kinda warmed to the trailers after my initial dislike.
It sucks even more so when studios don't know when to release horror films; I'm still waiting for Lucky McKee's The Woods to get a theatrical release, even though I saw a test screening nearly TWO YEARS AGO.

I liked the concept from the original but hated the way the director executed it. Looking forward to the remake and hoping it gets things right.

Probably should have just released it in March. I thought when it was moved to July that meant it must be really good... but then it gets yanked again, so who knows. The trailer intrigues me simply for its end-of-the-world vibe.

Unfortunately I think Universal waffling on the release date is a bad sign.

I think I recall reading someone's comment on the "strikeback" part of the news items that the reason it's been pushed back so much isn't due to the studio's lack of faith in the movie but rather the fact that the movie has had to be recut from an R to a PG13 four times now, this being the fourth, as the MPAA continues to rate it R for frightening sequences...
Personally, I'm really looking forward to this cause the trailers were pretty well put together and I love me some Kristin Bell but the reshooting for a PG13 really annoys me a little. I may consider holding off on this in theatres now and waiting for the true, original rated R cuts that the MPAA deemed too scary. What sucks even more is that if it were rated in Canada, the original rated R cut would probably have been a 14A or something like that here (which is equivalent to PG13 in U.S. except that the censors here are a lot more lenient) and they wouldn't have had to reshoot to broaden the audience base.
Bah...fucking MPAA...

I'm pissed! I'm excited to see this, mostly to see Kristen Bell in a suspense role. Oh well. Veronica Mars season 2 comes out next month so maybe that will keep me occupied. :)

This is frustrating as I was also looking forward to this movie.

I was just commenting to my brother yesterday on what the hell happened to this movie. I was thinking it should have came out a while ago. I don't think this is a good sign for the movie.

What? A horror movie that's rated R?? God forbid. Guys, this is a good thing, use this opportunity to go watch the original.

okay , i got an idea for the r rated thing , if it is true , get in touch with the creative minds behind land of the dead , they got away with pretty much an x rated or unrated film , the real unrated cut dint look that much diff , you can see what they got away with in that film , i still can't believe it , how the heck that got an r rating . so if that is the reason , im sure something can be worked out , with a little imagination .

i went to the movies about 2 weeks ago, so at the end of june, right? during the previews before the previews portion (y'know, when you can't hear goddamn thing anyone says on the screen but who cares? lately its been 'the closer' preview and behind the scenes of 'f&f 3: tokyo drift'...i go to amc theaters), i see a trailer for 'pulse'....with the relaease STILL at march 28th or whatever it was at in march. thought you guys would find it as funny as i have.

I thought the movie would be another retarded PG-13 horror but now that I hear this is R I might give it a look.

They're doing reshoots to get it down to a PG-13 rating. First of all, I don't like watered down PG13 cuts of films that were meant to be rated R. BUT the original Kairo didn't really have anything graphic enough to warrant an R rating in the first place. So I'm all sorts of confused and uninterested in this project.

According to the MPAA website, Pulse got an R rating.

The rumor is that they're doing reshoots to avoid that R rating. But what bothers me is how the remake got to the point of being R in the first place. The original was more about mood, suspense and that lonely feeling of isolation, that's what I liked about it. I fear the remake has abandoned that tone in favor of a cash-in horror film that doesn't live up to the thought-provoking original.

The orginal is rated R also, the remake is rated R for the same reasons.

No, I believe it's unrated in the United States.

I checked out the MPAA website and I think I understand the confusion now. The original Pulse(Kairo made in 2001) is unrated. The remake(2006) has been given and R rating and they're trying to cut it down for a PG13 release. Now a film called Pulse(released in 2003, alternate title: Octane (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0323465/) ) which is unrelated to the Kiyoshi Kurosawa film got an R rating for violence, language, some drug and sexual content. That's the film you're thinking of.

This film is now scheduled to be released on August 11, 2006.
Make up your mind, Weinsteins!
Either way, I can't wait. The film doesn't look all that good, but I *love* me some Kristen Bell. (Note avatar).
That is all.
