Apocalypse Now, the helicopters going to the village in the beginning
Silence Of The Lambs, Hannibal vs. two security guards
2001: A Space Odyssey, the docking sequences. Although, the music might have contributed to my falling asleep...
The Red Violin, the whole thing...

Kubrick was the master predominantely with A Clockwork Orange (the powerful Ninth) and as well with his selections for 2001.
Honorable Mention: Frank Darabont in the Shawshank Redemption with the perfect placing of a duet from the "Marriage of Figaro". GOOSEBUMP CITY!

In addition to the great examples above, my favorite use of classical music in a movie in the past ten years would have to be in Immortal Beloved when Beethoven's Ninth plays as the boy swims out to the lake, and floats on his back, the reflection of the stars all around him, as if floating in space.

My favorite use of classical music is in Die Hard when Hans Gruber stands in front after Theo fnally gets the vault to open.

I think it's Carmina Burana...?
My favourite is The Flower Duet in Carlito's Way and The Hunger...
Also, though the name escapes me at the moment, the song at the beginning of Raging bull is extraordinary...

I don't know if it counts because it's part of the story but the scene in AMADEUS when Soliari is reading over some of Mozart's work and he drops it because it is so moving...and also when Mozart is dictating the requiem.
I also love the opera scenes in MOONSTRUCK and PRETTY WOMAN, though the scene in MOONSTRUCK is infinitely more moving. And the opera scene in LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL is also wonderful.
As far as classical music as a 'mood enhancer' I like:
The scenes in OUT OF AFRICA and GREEN CARD using Mozarts Serenade w/ flute and strings.
The scene in SOMEWHERE IN TIME involving Rachmaninoff's 5th.
The scene in THE KILLING FIELDS which shows horrible news footage while the heavenly song NESSUN DORMA is playing on the radio.
The scne in in DEAD POETS SOCIETY while the boys are playing soccer. I forget the tune.
The scenes in A ROOM WITH A VIEW involving O Mio Babbino Caro and Chi Il Songno Di Dorreto sung by the exquisite Kiri Ti Kanawa.

*SPOILERS FOR THE UNTOUCHABLES*
I don't remember the name of the song, but some piece of classical music played as Sean Connery was crawling through his house after being shot. Very sad scene.

I liked that opera song they used in Hannibal. When they played it during certain scenes (towards the end), it gave the movie a dreamlike feel. See also the part at the end of Black Hawk Down.

OH YA, the opera written by Hans Zimmer in Hannabal, freaked me out, i love that movie mainly due to the way they used that melodey.
Also, Clockwork Orange all the way!

Great topic! Clockwork Orange and Silence of the Lambs are very good examples. I sure loved the films Immortal Beloved and Amadeous. By the way, when is someone going to make a film about the life of the great:eternal: Bach?
I think the best use of music in a film (non-classical), was in the opening sequence in 'Once were Warriors'. Excellent film. Powerful and thrilling opening score.

A CLOCKWORK ORANGE is easily the best, although, i am not sure this counts, but i truly loved the score from GHOST WORLD. I felt it added a lot to the picture.
