This is a good thing for the Cubans, since Castro's brother seems like he wants to make good with the people. We were friends with many Cuban exiles back home, and the stuff they would talk about - very freaky to know it was happening just 90 miles south of your land. Teachers would talk of having one bar of chocolate to last the class for days. Mechanics would have to actually build their own parts out of household appliances - pretty cool they could do that, but at the same time, why should they have to. Miami is blowing up right now. Viva la Cuba! Let's hope things smooth over as expected.

Small Pro-Democracy groups have been growing for a while now in Cuba and have even held meetings out in broad daylight, so it shows that the stranglehold of oldschool unchallenged dictatorships has been fading for quite sometime. But its wildly known that Raul is actually much worse than Fidel, so it is kinda like changing the guard dog, but replacing it with one with a nastier streak.

I dunno if the old exiles will immediately return back to Cuba once Castro is dead and his brother overthrown or if all traces of the old regime just fade away, they've created too much of a life in Miami, and other parts. But I know the Miami Cubans are losing their shit for sure!

I'm kinda disappointed that the only place I've been able to hear anything about this historic event is on spanish news stations.

When I hear that this asshole is dead and the people have taken over and converted to something (ANYTHING) resembling democracy, I will celebrate with them. Until then, it's still a dictatorship. And Electriclite is right. His brother makes him seem tame.

They've been reporting that the brother is a more stand-up guy. Where's that coming from?

I've been hearing Raul was worse than his brother for the 9 years I lived in Miami.

That reputation may have been based on incidents occuring during and after The Revolution. Maybe he's chilled out since then with age, but for quite a while I've always heard he was nastier than his brother.

Angry Cubans carry grudges forever, ya know.

On a side note: I long for the day where I may never have to hear the phrase: "Cuba Libre!" again!
