i'm not usually the type to totally disagree with people on movies, but sometimes i can't help myself. first of all, both the shawshank redemption and the green mile are incredible movies. both of them bring a wonder to the screen that's hard to get. this is the case, but when comparing them, there should be no question to which one is better. the shawshank redemption is far better in every aspect. i wish more poeple would realize that. what do you think?

They are both good movies, but Shawshank Redemption, in my opinion, is one of the best ever made.

Certainly The Shawshank Redemption. I loved The Green Mile and I consider it a great movie, but Shawshank is one of my two favorites ever.

Yeah,i'll go with the majority and pick Shawshank over The Green mile even though they both are very good.

Everybody here has already said it. Shawshank Redemption has it all over The Green Mile. Which is actually kind of funny, cause Tom Hanks is ten times the actor that Tim Robbins is. Go figure. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/sad/nixweiss.gif

I loved The Shawshank Redemption a lot more than The Green Mile.

The Green Mile is a good film, but it doesn't have the impact that Shawshank has. Plus, one gets the impression that Frank Darabont is kinda repeating himself. It's been a nice run, but don't make any more prison movies.
SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION = 8/10
GREEN MILE = 7/10

I thought it was the opposite? No, actually I think they are pretty much equal, but Robbins has shown more range in his movies.

Tim Robbins has shown more range in his movies than Tom Hanks? Wow, I didn't think I would ever hear those words come out of anybody's mouth. I could not disagree more.

I think you could here those words from MANY people. Hanks has essentially played the same character in his every movie since Forrest Gump, which is his biggest departure from the Average Joe. The only films where Hanks has shown some true range have been Forrest Gump and Big. He is very good at playing the average Joe, but how about playing something else every once in a while?
Don't mistake presence for talent. Hanks is certainly a better *star* than Robbins with more screen presence, but Robbins has a bigger repertoire of great performances. Hanks is almost always Hanks, while Robbins is usually the character he plays. He has the tendency to disappear to his roles and he takes a lot more changes than Hanks, which might well be the reason that he has never become a bigger name.
The haunted, symphatetic everyman of Jacob's Ladder. The slimy, immoral opportunist or Player. The satirical political opportunist of Bob Roberts. Adulterous asshole cop of Short Cuts. The goofy and innocent Norville Barnes of Hudsucker Proxy. The determined, decent and intelligent Andy of Shawshank Redemption. The cute Ed of I.Q. The creepy and scary villain of Arlington Road.
Tim Robbins has played a much wider range of characters than Hanks. Hanks has never played a dislikeable character. He has never played a BAD guy. No, his "bad guy with a good heart" in Road To Perdition doesn't count, because he is essentially playing a good guy in that one as well.
Along with that, Robbins's performances in Jacob's Ladder, Player and Short Cuts are just as good as anything that that Hanks has ever done.

Hanks has talent alright, Forrest Gump bears this out. It's just that he doesn't want to do anything to tarnish his "nice guy" image.

Green Mile isn't even in the same league with Shawshank Redemption. Green Mile was moderately unbelievable throughout, with only Hanks' performance speaking on its behalf. A pretty decent concept, but the idiotic Stephen King's handprints are on the film too much...Darabont should've done more to erase his touch, as he did with Shawshank.

No contest I'm afraid...The Shawshank Redemption is a Modern Classic...
And I personally favour Tim Robbins...Hanks isn't even in the same league IMO!

I really adore both movies.Honestly it`s very hard for me to decide which is the better one.By the way, I think Tom Hanks was equal to Tim Robbins as a performance.
As for the movies -I can`t say, I love them both.

See I don't like it when "actors" do that, image and acting are two different things. If you're going to choose your image over acting than you had best not refer to yourself as an actor.
And if you're afraid of tarnishing your "image" than you are therefore tarnishing your Box Office draw which therefore signifies the importance of money in your life. That wouldn't mean much to me but you have all these actors who go around saying they're all about their "craft" and pushing themselves as "artists", and then they continue taking roles that are not much of a departure from their previous ones all because they can't hinder the river of money.
