When I saw the original Wicker Man, I didn't know what to make of it. Even now, some months later, I STILL can't decide whether I liked it or not.

Yeah, it was unsettling and intriguing, but it also could have been a lot scarier and creepy. I think if it didn't have the nude scene I wouldn't have liked the movie much.

But then, if I hadn't watched it anticipating a scary movie, I might have liked it a lot more.

What do other people think?

I haven't seen it for a while but I remember liking it. It was a well made film, very involving, and the acting was quite good. I already knew the "shocking" ending beforehand though so it kind of diluted the impact.

My only real peeve with this movie was a plot hole. Maybe it's trivial, but to me it seems pretty obvious. *Spoiler ahead*

Here it is: who was it that reported the little girl missing? If the whole town was in on it, then why would anyone notify the mainland that Regan was missing? Did I miss something?

SPOILER!!!

Yeah. The whole reporting of the missing girl was the bait to lure Sergeant Howie into the trap.

Oh yeah ... for some reason that didn't occur to me (I must be slow). I guess I figured the town just counted themselves lucky that he showed up; but them actually luring him there just adds a whole layer of creepy that I didn't see before.

Now I like this film even more! :D
