Hey, have you ever had a person say to you, have you seen this such and such movie and you say yeah, and then you add, oh I have seen parts of it, and they contemplate sucide when you say that? "YOU HAVEN"T SEEN THE WHOLE THIIIINGGG!?!?!?" "Wow. SEE THE WHOLE THING NOOOOOWWW." I am like "fuck off. I don't have to watch a whole movie just because you tell me to." I feel that it is utterly ridiclous that someone has to tell someone else to see the fucking movie but it is just nuts because If I don't like what I see in the parts that I watch, don't tell me to watch a movie that I didn't like from the parts that I haven't seen. It's stupid. Nobody should have to watch stupid ass movies that they don't like. They don't have to watch a lame brain Wayans brothers comedy just because their friends just want to laugh their stupid asses off. I mean, come on. We should be able to watch a movie that we like in the first 20 minutes. Don't tell me to watch the rest of the flick just because you want me to hear what happens in the rest of the flick. I don't need to hear it if I think it sucked. If I actually liked the fucking film, then I will watch the fucking thing whole and then we'll disscuss the movie afterwards. Also, I find you to be a jackass if you spoil a movie for me. You make my shit list if you even UTTER a single word of a single key plot change or a twist in a movie. I hate that shit. Whew.

You must be very sensetive if you take offense or get pissed off at something like that. Usually the phrase "See the whole thing nowww" is said in a psuedo joking or friendly way and not meant to be hostile in and way, shape or form... Your responce to it seems like you just have a stick up your butt or somethin'.

Actually, my friends say it in the most serious tones. :o

Well I remember the "SEE IT NOW!" atleast.
But lets not get off topic.
....I don't have a problem with this, unless it's for a movie I know I'll hate.

I have acquaintances like that myself.
Just wanna hurl them out of a moving car and circle the block to laugh at 'em when you pass by them again. (Anger issues...that's me.)
I purely hate when people I know, don't know, TV commercials all advise "A MUST SEE MOVIE".
Really? Do catch a bullet in my skull if I don't? No? Then I'll pass.
But pushy assholes who "don't know what's wrong with you" because "you haven't seen the whole thing?!!" "Oh my god!"
I'll view it when I want, if I want to view it.
I hear what you're sayin, Dudeman.

none of my friends have said that to me, although one keeps getting at me about watching the Godfather films
i've had some people on the boards say that before though.
if im watching a film and within the first 20-30 minutes (if i can even get that far) im not liking it i dont see the point in finishing it, id rather turn it off and watch something that i'll enjoy

Same, except when I'm in the theatre. I can't refund my ticket so I'll stay and finish the movie. "Ultraviolet" was the perfect example of that.

Well I think its safe to say that if you didn't enjoy the first half hour of The Godfather, it's unlikely that you'll end up loving the rest. The tone and pace is pretty consistant.
I've never finished some films that I criticize, a few being Old School, Anchorman, American Pie and Garden State. Havent seen every second of them - I am damn sure that I don't like em though.

If I don't see every second of a movie, I can't live with myself, and I can't consider it as if I have seen the whole movie. It's an obsessive compulsive type quirk, but I can't deny it. Even if I miss the first minute of the opening credit sequence of a film, I will not count it that I've seen the film. But yeah, I think you're a little over-sensitive. Or maybe I'm biased, because I usually find myself providing a similar reaction when someone tells me they only saw half of The Shawshank Redemption, or Pulp Fiction, or City of God. Or Million Dollar Baby. That gets me the most, when people see the first half of Million Dollar Baby and say that "it didn't seem that special". And I'm like "dude... you haven't seen ANYTHING yet."

The exact same here. I'm like Woody Allen's character in Annie Hall. Even if I missed the beginning of the credits I get the hell out of there.

If I ask my friends if they liked the movie and they say I didn't watch it all I kill them. And if it's a great film I kill their families as well.

I understand the whole "HEy it's the rant forum, can't a person vent out" mentality n all...but then i have to say this topic is quite pointless.
Think about it...I see that dudeman69's favourite movie is oldboy...If i start a rant saying "i saw the first 15 mins of oldboy...and i thought it sukkk'd...so i stopped watchin"...(i have, infact started a rant along those lines)...now if i said something like that i'm sure dudeman/or anyone would say "you should see the whole movie dude!!!!IT's FUKKIN AWSM!!!!"...there's nothing wrong with it. It's just a normal human reaction. It's something like saying "hi" or "bye"...just another spontaneous common reaction.

I'm like that too..I need to see a movie completely before counting it. I also feel that I need to see a movie all the way through before juding it completely. I started to watch Moulin Rouge and considered turning it off in the beginning..but by the end, it was one of my favorite films. A Beautiful Mind I didn't like too much either 20 minutes in, but by the end, again..a brilliant film. Now some films..such as Little Man..this, I can see. I know I won't like that movie. But for the most part, I try to give movies a fair chance. And you have a good point with Million Dollar Baby, because unless you've watched it til the end, you haven't even seen the most interesting plot points which turns the film around and makes it what it is.

I've never walked out of a movie (apparently my streak is longer than Gene Shalit's now) because I hate missing parts of movies. I've arrived late a few times, but I'll catch up either by going back to see it or renting the flick when it comes out on DVD. The only times I've seen "parts" of movies is when the thing is on TV - usually I don't finish it or change channels just because it didn't appeal to me all that much.
The only exception I can think of is City of God; I haven't seen the beginning or how it ends. But the middle was really freakin' good. I haven't gotten a chance to see it in it's entirety (I had to leave and meet some people so I couldn't finish it.)
I've never had anyone berate me about seeing parts of movies. Usually because most of the people I know are aware that I know more about movies than they do; even the ones I haven't seen.

I'm just like Monotreme and Jessica3000. If someone in my house is talking while we're watching a film. I'll grab the remote and rewind it, even if it's merely 2 or 3 seconds of dialogue.
As for the original poster, you have to realize that there are a ton of films that get a lot better or don't really hit their brilliance until a later point in the film. When I'm watching a movie (for the first time), I feel as if I've already made a commitment to watch and I better fulfill that.
Imagine that you're a horror fanboy and you've rented From Dusk Till Dawn for the first time ever. You want to see it so badly because of the cool vampire fights and whatnot that some schmoes told you about. The fact is, you're not too big on the crime genre. So you sit down to watch it and turn it off before the vampire madness begins and go "Dude, that movie wasn't even about vampires, what were those schmoes thinking?"
So you go onto the Horror boards and post "From Dusk Till Dawn didn't even have vampires," and they would reply "Duuuude you gotta watch the second half!" But you won't do it because you already decided that you don't like it and will never watch the rest of it.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those people. In my group of friends, I'm the movie elitist...meaning I talk, breathe, and live movies. And when I hear either of the following sentences (at least pertaining to a great film), I seem to have a small heart-attack:
A) I have never heard of it.
B) I have not seen it.
C) I have not watched all of it.
I try to be less judgemental most of the time, because I know not everyone goes to the movies 3 to 4 times a week and loves them like I do, but I just found out last night that one of my best friends has never seen any of the Star Wars films. I lost it then, of course.

If that's enough to give you a small heart-attack... You should know what some friends of mine say about movies I think are great:
A) It sucked. Worst movie ever.
B) It's just so booooring. I fell asleep like 3 times.
C) I don't like it because it's in black & white.

I came across a great example of someone not watching a film all the way through when they should have done, a few days ago: someone posted a 3-star review on Amazon or somewhere of La Dolce Vita. Apparently it's "a silly romantic comedy about an Italian movie star falling in love."
What. The. Fuck?!

Dude, how precious is your time that you can't watch a whole movie?
You can have an opinion, but people won't hold much stock in it if you don't see the whole thing.
I make a point of never ruining a movie by seeing parts or starting anywhere but from the beginning.
Even if a movie turns out to be shit and it's just torture, it's something to do and something to watch. Maybe I'm a masochist, but I'll watch anything and sit through anything.
All life is about is killing time, so just watch the fucking movies start to finish.

Ah, Christ, those excuses kill me. Okay, if they didn't like it, it's understandable. But at least give me a better reason then, "It sucked!" And usually their reasoning for it sucked was because of A) and B) above.
