I dont know if you guys have seen the trailers of this movie called "Step it up" if you havent? Well I dont think you havent because its on every commercial break a couple times. As I watch said commercial one of the reviews stated "A movie in the past 10 years that captures a voice of a nation"

WTF does that mean?!?! As far as I understood its a dancing movie, nothing to do with speaking?

Its a generic dance movie, cut from the same cloth as other dance movies like DirtyDancing 2, You got served, etc etc. This movie isnt special. Why does it deserve such reviews?

Well, it looks pretty bad so they might as well try to overhype it as much as possible.

Totally agree, my friend. I've been spending a lot of time in bed, watching some t.v., and I see this commerical so fucking much, and that pathetic "caputre the voice of a generation" garbage. A sad attempt to attract more movie-goers.

Did you see the commercial where the words "AMAZING", "SPECTACULAR", "HEART-STOPPING" come up...but they aren't quotes, just random adjectives thrown in to make it look like critics said it to the unsuspecting public.

"Captures the voice of a generation", I sure as fuck hope not!

The sad thing is I think millions of Americans will feel this way, that's how low we've sunk.

Why without the success of "you got served" ROH fans wouldn't chant it after Jack Evans does some break dancing. :D

they only use this marketting tool every once in a couple of years, and they decide to waste it on this movie? Honestly, "Snakes on a Plane" deserves that "voice/nation/decade" title more than this crappy movie. Not many people outside of movie boards will admit it, but they WANT to see THAT movie instead of another dance-cliche-orama. "Snakes," the more original - if completely ridiculous (but who cares?) - movie, is more appealing than another teeny-bopper movie with the same "hip" dancing we've seen before in other "hip" movies.

Note: associated with any use the word "hip" in the above pararage are the words "shit," "shitty," etc...

(Cue the cool voice of Samuel L. Jackson)

"A movie comes along every ten years that captures the voice of the nation...a film so inspiring...a motion picture leaving everyone at once in absolute awe...a piece of art that leaves you craving for more...that movie is...'Snakes on a Plane,' motherfucker! Motherfucking snakes on a motherfucking plane!...This year, you will be in awe when the snake shit hits the fan!"

Who's with me?

When a movies main base of advertising is on Myspace they may actually be capturing the voices of a nation..who use badly formatted websites.

If anything, the quote is probably from a critic that has ties to the movie studio releasing the movie. The quote itself is cliche as hell which leads me to believe that the movie won't be too far off. I am greatful for not having seen any TV spots for the movie - because it sounds stupid as hell.

I actually saw the commercial before realizing what this thread was about.

My question is - 10 years ago, what movie were they referring to?

Oh, and what's a wigger?

A male caucasion, usually born and raised in the suburbs that displays a strong desire to emulate African American Hip Hop culture and style through "Bling" fashion and generally accepted "thug life" guiding principles.

Often characterized by his car, or "whip": usually an econobox modified with at least twice the car's book value in non-power producing modifications or an SUV with at least 5500 lbs. of curb weight. Traditional trucks can also qualify here, depending on locale (southern states' percentages are higher). All vehicles are also mandated to have at least 19" chrome alloy wheels, regardless of make. The typical wigger is also characterized by a strong desire to adorn gold jewlery (especially heavy gold chains) and athletic warm up suits. All equipment and clothing will be paid for by the parents of the individual in question, or the parents of said individual's "shorty" through the use of said shorty's credit cards.

A general disposition of "hard" will be displayed among other wiggers and to kids around their neighbohood (usually labelled a 'subdivision' or 'gated community' due to its mass produced housing develoment origins). This disposition will immediately be dropped and replaced by a more typical "white boy" disposition when in the presence of actual African Americans ( with exceptions: Those whose origins trace to the suburbs being the most prominant.).

Wigger: "Yo kid, you best be watchin' ya step!"

Typical Suburban White Girl: "Didn't you get that Do-rag at Hot topic?"

Wigger: "Yeah, well.. you know how we do!"

Jamie Kennedy's character on Malibu's Most Wanted: would that qualify as a wigger?

Yes, the point of his character was to spoof wiggers.

Yet oddly enough, it does draw a crowd in.
