So The Thin Red Line is one of my favorite films of all time next to The Insider. I recently saw The New World on dvd and I was definitely not disappointed. What an absolutely beautiful film. Wish more films were made like this. These type of films don't come around too often.

I just noticed on imdb.com that Terrence Malick has another film in the works listed for release in 2008.

Tree of Life

Mel Gibson and Colin Farrell.

There is not much more info on the site than that. Any one know what a potential plotline for this movie is? And is Mel Gibson really going to be in this? This should be interesting...

Maybe this time he can actually have a complex plot and something else other than inert dull characters. There is more to film than pretty pictures.

Not particularily a big fan of Malick's work.

I found The New World to be slighlty dull, even though it ended up being a decent film. ( However, I don't think of it as highly as some people do here)

I think Malick has had interesting characters in his films, probably due in part to the performance that brings out said qualities. Nick Nolte in The Thin Red Line is one example I can think of, as well as Elias Koteas. Those two stand out in a sea of actors, many indistinguishable or whom pass through without completely registering.

Q'Orianka Kilcher gave life and soul to The New World.

I look forward to anything Malick does in the future, whether or not it goes under the radar.

I know a few things about the project. It is being funded by an up and coming Indian production company that is laying down a "too-good-to-be-true-and-since-it's-true-they-must-be-crazy-or-stupid" budget of 150 million dollars.

More interestingly, the film is rumored to be based on a 25 year-old Malick script about a Minotaur from thousands of years ago that lays down to take a nap, and the film is based on the Minotaur's dreaming of the evolution of the universe, from the Big Bang to the creation of Earth to the dinosaurs to Jesus and to where we are now. The script was called "Q".

Also, I've heard a rumor that a fairly large chunk of the film has already been shot, and that shooting will conclude in early 2007.

I can't wait, even if only .5% of all of this information is true.
