I'm working on a currently untitled horror film. I'm still deciding what I want to shoot it with, but I know it will be a mix of digital video and super 8. I'm looking at Dell's, but I'm not sure which ones have the better video card, or are suited best for movie editing. Any suggestions for laptops?

Also, what software would you recomend as an editor?

Thanks -
Crow

Dells and Gateways are not the way to go for laptop editing. You either want to go to someone who caan custom make a laptop for all your needs or get a mac laptop for editing.

Editing movies ae really the only thing that macs have been god for so if you want the best go with that. Also I would suggest looking up stuff like Final Cut Pro.

I don't know, I'd like a mac for editing, but I'd also like to use the laptop for other things, and mac's don't always have the options. I'm looking at some alienwares and maybe adobe permiere.

If you're serious about editiing and need a laptop then a 17 inch MacBook Pro w/ loaded memory and HD space and an external HD is the way to go. Is there a specific program that you need to use that you can't use on a mac? You can pretty much do all the usual stuff on a mac....It's not like 10 years ago when finding an app for mac was a pain.

I also like making beats. I use FL Studio Producer Edition and I don't know if thats compatable with macs

Is the portability really that important? For the price of a laptop you can get a much more powerful tower. Editing movies takes up all your space, even short films (forget fitting a feature on a laptop without an external). My Powerbook is full and I have only two films on it.

To me, the only way to go is to use Final Cut Pro on a Mac. G5's are sweet but they don't come in laptop, you'd have to go for a G4.

G5 with Final Cut Pro without a doubt.

Buy the G5, and absolutely DONT download Final Cut from a torrent site as that's illegal.
Get a decent external hard drive and store all your footage on that.

There's not much that Macs and Windows aren't compatible with now and there's plenty of Mac alternatives to Fruity Loops..
