Has anyone watched Jim Rome is burning the last few days with its guests hosts? Today its been poor Jim Gray tripping over his words and mumbling and bumbling and not making any damn sense. His voice was trembling and I thought any second he would start crying. He just blew his one shot to be anything more than a sideline reporter. Last week it was another idiot Jason Whitlock who wouldnt shut up about how sexy he is and just flat out making a mockery of the show. Come back Jim Rome, your show is burning without you!

Whitlock is the worst. I'm black, so I can say that he tries waaaay too hard to associate himself with black people that it's kind of insulting. Whenever he hosted PTI (when Tony and Wilbon were away) and they do that segment "give the kids something to watch," he'd always say things like "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood," "Boyz in the Hood" etc. He wears flashy pimp suits, talks like he's a boss, quotes rappers... it's a disgrace.

I sort of like Jason, myself, but Jim Gray was an unintentional comedy goldmine today. Having him do this show is sort of like having Jimmy Olson wear Superman's suit.

Incidentally, I miss Max Kellerman's show more than I can express. Even at his best, Rome's a half-assed pale imitation of Max.

I'm not saying Whitlock doesn't know his sports. I enjoy reading his columns, but on tv he tries too hard to be black and to me he's almost like a walking stereotype. But at least he knows sports whereas Jim Gray looks absolutely lost. I don't know much about Jim Gray but isn't he just a lifelong sideline reporter?

As for Kellerman, I'm a huge boxing fan so obviously I have a soft spot for him because he was one of the few people who had mainstream exposure and really talked boxing, a spot that is undeniably dying and I feel a lot of shows don't want to talk about for fear of nobody caring. The only times I remember boxing being discussed on PTI was either Tyson related or the Hopkins/Taylor "crying doll" incident. I think Rome gives the best interviews though. He'll ask any one anything. But in terms of just listening to their opinions, I prefer Kellerman

Good, I fucking hate Jim Rome's smug ass-face and I hope his show get cancelled with such prejudice that his spleen ruptures.

The thing I love about Max is that he's so Goddamned smart. The guy is interested in everything and knows at least a little about it.

He's a lot brasher, but he's sort of a throwback to the old school of sportswriters, at least in major metro areas like New York and LA (I'm thinking of people like George Vescey and Jim Murray), who were real men of the world.

Best thing Jim Rome ever did was almost get his ass kicked by Jim Everett... :D

If Max Kellerman is so great why do you think he was replaced by Tony Reali on Around the Horn? I've always been a fan of the show and never understood the change. I dont despise Jim Rome the way you guys do, I live in San Diego so I can listen to him on the radio every morning an I enjoy his honesty. Sometimes he can go a little far though.

Fox unloaded a Brink's truck on Max's doorstep and he started his own show on FSN, I, Max. It was him, Michael Holley and Bill Woolf, who used to do the voiceovers for ATH when Max was there.

Fox, as it's various highlight shows over the years have proven, has a hard time, with all the regional outlets, competing with ESPN, which puts all of it's shows on at the same time for everyone. That was part of the reason I. Max never really took off.

I remember when Michael Holley was on ATH with his dreads, braces, and girlish voice and it was just too hilarious to take him seriously. I've seen I, Max a few times and I didnt enjoy it. When both Wilbon and Kornheiser are on the show (a rarity these days) Pardon the Interuption is my favorite sports show.

I can't stand Jim Rome. His TV show is almost tollerable if I catch it, but on the radio he's atrocious. I listen to a different radio station at work, but one day their reception just vanished, so I flipped over to the other sports talk radio and it was Jim "master of the dramatic pause" Rome. Seriously, the guy has a five second pause after every sentence.

I'll catch the tail end of his show before Around the Horn, and to my horror caught Jason Whitlock - the marble mouthed wonder. He made PTI unwatchable, especially if it was him and Jay Mariotti.

I really liked Max Kellerman when he hosted ATH - he and Woody Paige had something special going on there. But I have to admit, I really like Tony Reali now. I didn't at first just because he was "not-Max," but he's really grown on me. I tried watching I, Max and thought it was terrible. Like a stripped down ATH with bad camera angles.

But above all else, PTI owns. Kornhieser cracks me up. I know several people who don't like him from his radio days, but I've only known him from PTI and I think he's great, especially when trying to use some kind of slang that's way beyond him.

Max used to call Holley "Beetlejuice", after the cranky little guy from Howard Stern's show :D

Just to be clear, Reali's okay, and I still watch ATH, but, like several people here, I prefer PTI, especially the original recipe (i.e., no Ryan or LeBetard :( )

I've been seeing Mikey and Tony doing variations of this schtick for (literally) years.

I used to see them both on the Redskins talk show that Steve Buckhantz hosted on WTTG, channel 5 out of DC (Christine Brennan was their Washington Post colleague then and often appeared on that show, as well), then later on Home Team Sports, which was the DC area regional sports cable network (it's Comcast Sports Network, now.) I knew they would do a terrific show when PTI premiered.

Each has little things that annoy me (I hate it when Mike gets started stomping on Va Tech's football team and I couldn't give less of a shit that Kornheiser is close with that asshole Larry Brown), but for the most part, those two are all aces from me.

I've never liked Jim Rome, so I don't watch his show. I love ATH and PTI though; like the insight and the camaraderie the people have with each other on each respective show. I think Reali is a good host and knows his sports shit; I like his little bit at the end of PTI. But it's fun watching Reali keep the foursomes in line, and watching Kornheiser and Wilbon banter back and forth. It's a great hour if you love sports.

Though I do wish both shows would stop talking about Terrell Owens.

On the topic of T.O., all those sport debate shows are a bunch of fucking hypocrites. They sit there on national television and constantly, every single day, talk about how overexposed TO is and how they are tired of hearing about him. Why the fuck dont they understand they are part of the problem? I'm actually kind of glad that the PGA has been on this week so I dont have to hear about TO for two hours.
