All day today I've been listening to the new Monsieur Gainsbourg tibute cd. It really is a varied beautiful piece of work. It's strange hearing these songs in English, I don't know french so most of his work before when I heard it I enjoyed mostly from a melody perspective, now I got whopping dose of his music covered in English, Ahhh Lifes good. I knew this album was going to find a special place in my cd player the minute the cat power & Karen Elson cover came on. Now don't get me wrong some of the covers are a tad bit weak, I was a bit dissapointed with the Portishead, Francoise Hardy tracks but if your at all interested in the man or any of these artists give it a whirl, I found it worthwhile.

Track listing:

1. A Song For Sorry Angel - Franz Ferdinand
2. I Love You (Me Either) - Cat Power
3. I Just Came To Tell You That I'm Going - Kid Loco
4. Requiem For Anna - Portishead Listen
5. Requiem For A Jerk - Francoise Hardy
6. L'Hotel - Michael Stipe
7. Au Revoir Emmanuelle - Tricky
8. Lola R. For Ever - Marianne Faithfull
9. Boomerang 2005 - Gonzales
10. Boy Toy (I'm The Boy) - Marc Almond
11. The Ballad Of Melody Nelson - Placebo
12. Just A Man With A Job - The Rakes
13. I Call It Art - The Kills
14. Those Little Things - Carla Bruni

Interesting, but you can't beat the original.

True but understanding the lyrics really helps add to the proceedings.

Anyone interested in Serge Gainsbourg should check out the following two albums by Mick Harvey.

Intoxicated Man (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000003Z44/ref=sr_11_1/102-4230645-2006548?ie=UTF8) & Pink Elephants (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000003Z4P/ref=pd_bxgy_img_b/102-4230645-2006548?ie=UTF8)

Intoxicated Man is the better of the two. Both are, though, in my opinion, essential. Trust me.
