At one point in Blade, Blade's love interest Karen gets thrown down a hole and ends up in a chamber who's floor is covered in sand and bones. She is approached by a guy who looks like a zombie. What is he? Is he a zombie? A ghoul? What?

He was a mutant. He was also and old boyfriend of hers who was bitten by Quint at the beginning. It's explained that even though he died from the bite, he never quite "turned", thus resulting in what he was, which is a pretty damm weak, powerless THING that the girl was easily able to dispatch. Perhaps the only similiar character in vampire lore was Dracula's sidekick Renfield, who was bitten, but didn't quite turn all the way, winding up living on spiders and other insects until Dracula killed him...

Wasn't Renfield a "ghoul"?
