View Full Version : This bugs me...

So this may not be considered a rant, but it bugs the shit out of me. I'm gonna try and apply all of this to movies and turn the argument around on the people who use it.

I'm 17 years old and every time I read about how, "all the kids" fuck up movie experiences now a days bothers me. Now I'll admit that a lot of problems in theaters are caused by kids, from infants on up to infantile adults. However comments that generalize an entire demographic into one group are my biggest problems with movies today. It seems that Film Companies make films that appeal to the largest demographic and then those films, usually teen comedies or PG-13 horror flicks, get the worst reviews from fans, critics, and everyone else, and they don't make their money back.

The same goes for people who say you have to be in a certain demographic to like a film. A comment like, "You'd have to be gay to like Brokeback Mountain" or "Only black people like Hustle and Flow" are just as annoying and infuriating as "Teenagers should be banned from movies" or "I don't ever watch horror movies in theaters anymore because the fuckin teenagers make it painful".

I have never made a scene or a disruption in a theater and I never will regardless of my age or status in life. Hell, Joel Segal got up and yelled during a screening of Clerks II and he's what sixty or so?

I guess my point is that if you bitch about dumbass comments being made that generalize or simplify films and audiences, then don't make comments that are just as bad about people that offend or bother you. Be specific in you complaints, and feel free to have your opinions. Just try to not turn an opinion into a hate speech of sorts.

For the record, I'm not gay and loved Brokeback, I'm not a "chick" but loved The Lake House, and I'm not accusing everyone who's complained about kids on this site of being an ageist or whatever.
And I would never do anything like this or say anything about a certain group.
Except Carnies. Circus folk. Nomads, you know. Smell like cabbage. Small hands.

I gotta be honest here, 99.9999999999% of all problems I have ever encountered at the movie theater, have been the result of a teenager/younger person.

So whether it bugs you or not, its the truth. Teens and movie theaters just dont mix.

Not, immature/stupid/loud/obnoxious teens and theaters don't mix.

I go once a week if I can and like I said I never caused a problem.
My biggest problems come from the staff of the theaters actually.

I'm a teen.
And I've never done anything stupid while watching a movie (that I remember).
If it's a group of egotistical, stupid, dumbass teenagers, who want to impress eachother and DECIDE TO HAVE A ICE FIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A FREAKIN' SCREENING OF THE TERMINAL, THEN THEY ARE STUPID TEENS.

"Hey, he's young, so he must be a asshole/obnoxious teen."
"Your generation is so unrespectful."

I'll admit, there are alot of teens who are disrespectful little shits, but not allll of us are that bad.

...So, yes. I agree with this rant.

Hate speech? Those are pretty strong words. I gotta agree with jackson13, the majority of annoying theater-goers are teenagers. In fact, I try my best to avoid being around them by going to mostly R films. If it's G or PG or PG-13, I'll got a really late show where there's a more adult crowd.

I just used hate speech because I couldn't think of a better term and that's why I used "of sorts"..I know it's not as bad as a hate speech but it fit better than "a complaint about a group of people"

and thank you Backstabba anymore teen out there who are pissed about this please post away..and in case sombody askes...I'd tell the dumb kids to shut up in the theater but I don't wann get my ass kicked for it and I probably will...adults have a built in thing that says "don't assult him" kids just ignore that and kick the crap out of the over weight movie geek instead...

i recently turned 20 but ive been saying kids/teens ruin the film going experience for the last few years......because its true. whenever i go to the cinema, its the kids/teenagers that are talking on their phones/texting people, making stupid fucking jokes constantly, laughing when nothing funny happens, throwing popcorn/sweets at people that are actually trying to watch the fucking film, trying to guess outload whats going to happen next, talking to the screen like the actors can actually hear them, and generally talking constantly during a film etc (ive even been in a cinema when some fucktard started playing on a gameboy with the volume on full and guess what.......he was a teenager)

this is the reason i mainly go to see 18 rated films and always go to see films just before its ended its run

i know not all kids/teenagers do this (i sure as hell never did) but from my experience it is always them that cause the problems

Of course it's the kids and teenagers that cause the most problems. It's because they are less immature and less likely to give a fuck about respecting the people around them.

Jut becasue a couple of teenagers have come on here and said I don't do it boss doesn't mean that other people your age or younger are not. It is 99% because of obnoxious little twats that movies get ruined. Just a shame for you guys that you can get tarred with same brush.

Generalization is unfortunate, but if you DON'T:

A) Go to a movie with your friends and talk the whole way through
B) Bring your cellphone along so you can tell your friend that's on punishment what's happening, WORD FOR WORD
C) Decide to start reviewing the fucking movie while it's still playing for everyone to see

Then you're okay! You're good! Yay, youth of the world!

But unfortunately, there are SO many teens, preteens, and 20 somethings that enjoy going out to these theaters and make the "good" youths look bad.

Because it's so fucking cool to show an entire theater of people that you've never met that you're a big man by doing whatever you want after paying your $10 dollars, which includes pissing that money down the toilet by missing the god damned movie you came out to see and ruining everyone else's movie going experience!

But to sum up: if you don't do the above things, then thank you. When I personally complain about these young sack jockeys that fuck up my movie time, I mean THOSE ones, not the respectful ones.

The majority of the shit going down 95% of the time IS due to teens while the other 5% is from people bringing their kids and babies who dont belong. Thats why its perfectly acceptable to paint with a broad brush in this instance - so if you aint in the majority and are mature - dont get bugged by it

I'm not sure if you just don't get our points or you just want to be argumenative.

Listen, when people go to the theatre and have their film ruined by idiots it's the majority of the time teens. Thats not the same as saying the majority of the teens that go to watch films are like this. Do you see?

Teenagers only seem to be a distraction during "popcorn" movies. I remember seeing a shitload of teenagers at Munich and none of them seemed to be a hassle.

From my personal experience, stupid movies+stupid teenagers= unpleasant moviegoing experience.

In other words, don't go to movies like Pulse or When a Stranger Calls because you know a good deal of the teens there are going to be loud, obnoxious idiots.

As a teen, I can say that the major moral majority of disrespectful fucks i've had experiences with in the theater (if not ALL of them), have been other teens. Yes, it pisses me off that half wit sons of bitches that text constantly through the movie, talk out loud about the things in the flick as they happen, throw shit, etc....um, shit, it pisses me off that kids like that get my whole generation generalized, but i'll be damned if it hasnt been a teenager disrupting things every single time.
....there are those of us teens who have common courtesy and respect for others while in the theater, but, i'd hate to say it, but we're becoming more and more the minority these days.

I see what you guys are saying, but it's like I said before. For me, probably less than 50% of the problems I've encountered at theaters are due to kids. Granted, I've nver seen, 40 year old virgin, Wedding Crashers, or any PG-13 horror movie in theaters--But I saw Cars in a packed theater full of all ages with no problem. Same thing with all five showings of Clerks II I saw. Maybe kids in Texas just don't go see the same movies as me, or you just get worse as you get older here...Oh well.

I'm a teen as well and while I don't appreciate being lumped in with every other person in my age group, it is true teens do cause most of the ruckus. This is in fact why I mostly watch DVD's as opposed to going to the theatre.

Hey, look - It's another case of someone thinking the people who post on internet movie forums are exactly like and exact representations of the entire general movie audience!!

You have me with the "certain types of people don't like certain types of movie thing" but aside from that --- I agree that people shouldn't generalize, but you are chewing out the messenger when you should be chewing out your friends. You are to teens what Jesse Jackson is to African Americans.

I understand what you guys are saying. Look, Potzer! 37, HerbertWestPwns - I was like you. I was the one teen who always behaved himself and was really annoyed by the behavior of my peers.

But you know what? It's true. Most movies are ruined by teens. It happened when I was a teen ten years ago. It's happening now, and it will continue to happen forever (or at least until over 21 theaters catch on). I recognized this when I was a teenager and didn't like being "lumped in" with "that" crowd, but I knew there wasn't really anything that could be done about it. Just grin and bear it. Someday you'll be twenty and then YOU will get to complain about those damn teenagers ruining movies.

Why just the other night I saw The Descent. At 29 years old, I was BY FAR the oldest person in the 8:20 show that night. There was a group of kids so big that they took up an entire row of seats plus one more. The odd man out had to sit down a row, but every time someone else got up to go to the lobby, the odd man would make a big scene and climb over the others to get the seat by everyone else. This happened at least three times. There was a couple to the right of me that decided to have a "tickle fight" at one point. To my left was a couple of loud talkers. And everyone had a cell phone they kept flipping open. Luckily the movie was good enough to shut most of them up.

This is just one of MANY examples of disruptive people. I'm not gonna say it's always teens, but it is about 75% of the time.

Case in point teens cause problems:

Last night I go to the 9:10 show of 'Accepted'. I got there about a 1/2 hour before show time, selected my seat, and waited for it to begin.

5 minutes before the movie starts a big group of teens comes in and occupies the row in front of me. One of the little douchebags has a laser pointer (who even has those anymore, honestly), and he no sooner sat down with his friends before he started waving it all over the screen, cracking himself and his dumbass friends up.

I said, very loudly, "if that laser pointer goes off during the movie I'm gonna shove it right up your ass". People around me all laughed, and when the kid turned around to look at me, and noticed I wasnt joking, he put it in his pocket and he and his friends behaved throughout the entire film then.

I know for a fact that if I hadnt said anything the little bastard and his friends would've fucked around the entire movie.

Nothing better to do in my town than go to the theater and fuck around during a movie I guess. Good thing I was there and that there were so many other people in the theater as well, otherwise those kids would've ruined the whole movie.

Yeah, and to be honest - I give teens more credit than others do. I'm with you on the idea that not all teens are goofballs, but like they say, "Hey you with the buggy eyes and head dripping with sweat, do you want to see something cool? Go look in a freezer. Booyah!" and then they give me a high five.

I've found that loud obnoxious people who are completely oblivious to people around them have been living in their own world their entire lives and age makes no difference. The same person who annoyed the crap out of you in the theatre when they were a teenager is going to be the same person who annoys the crap out of you when they are middle aged.
