Romero returns to 'Dead' zone
NEW YORK -- The dead are rising again. Horror maven George A. Romero has signed on to write and direct "George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead," the latest sequel to his 1968 cult classic "Night of the Living Dead." With a story mixing elements of "The Blair Witch Project" and the long-running "Dead" series, the film will follow a group of college students shooting a horror movie in the woods who stumble upon a real zombie uprising. When the onslaught begins, they seize the moment as any good film students would, capturing the undead in a "cinema verite" style that causes more than the usual production headaches. After going more than two decades without making an independently financed zombie film, Romero told his production partner Peter Grunwald he was frustrated working within the system. "I was trying to convince Peter we could just run off and do it ourselves," he said. (Gregg Goldstein)

I really hope this isn't the 5th Living Dead movie. I was looking forward to Land Of The Dead 2. Hopefully still am, but this seems like just another zombie movie not connected with the other Dead films. Here's hoping.....

I was disappointed with Land of the Dead and would not look forward to a sequel. The thought of him making an independently funded feature does interest me. I like that he's trying new things instead of just cashing in on previous works. Is a Blair Witch-esque Romero film something that we want? I'm not sure, what's most important is that we get some characters we can actually give a damn about this time around. But hey, I liked Day of the Dead so what do I know.

Trying new things? Are you kidding?
He's gonna do ANOTHER fucking zombie movie - that is CASHING IN and NOT trying new things - hes also doing a "Blair Witch meets" type of thing - KACHING=CASHING IN
Romero needs to be put out to pasture

I think he just ment he's not doing another remake. Sure it's still a zombie movie, but I for one love zombie movies, he pretty much invented the genre so i say bring on more zombies.

You can't keep a good zombie down. Horror legend George A Romero is set to write and direct a fifth movie in the classic zombie series which began with Night of the Living Dead in 1968.
Diary of the Dead will apparently have similarities to the Blair Witch Project, following a group of college students who are filming their own horror movie in the woods when they happen upon a real zombie uprising. With the resourcefulness of the young and naive, they decide to make their feature a documentary before encountering some pretty grisly technical problems.
"It has my sensibility, my sense of socioeconomic satire," Romero told the Hollywood Reporter. "And it has my zombies! They're not rushing around - they're gonna be moving slow." Plenty of howling is also promised.
The $5m project is scheduled to begin shooting in Toronto in October.
Romero is also currently working on Solitary Isle, a horror thriller based on a Japanese short story by Koji Suzuki, who wrote the books upon which the films The Ring and Dark Water are based.

I see your point, but come on. This is George Romero. Zombie flicks are his career. Besides he wants to get AWAY from the studio film-making process, I really wouldn't say that's cashing in. Zombie movies are simply his preference, and that's what the fans want to see from him anyway. It's like saying Scorsese is cashing in for making another mobster movie.
All of the Dead flicks have been different enough. He's not repeating himself. However a Land of the Dead sequel would be redundant. And I didn't say the whole "Blair Witch meets" whatever would be good, I raised that exact question.

In my opinion and I know I'll be thrashed for this but "Dawn of the Dead" is the only good movie Romero ever made. In fact its a great movie, maybe the greatest zombie movie ever made, but aside from Dawn Romero's got nothin'.
