Synopsis: "Chev Chelios begins his morning with an unexpected telephone call. Tired, almost unable to move, and with a heart which is barely beating, he hears the voice of a cruel thug, who reveals Chev has been poisoned in his sleep and only has an hour to live. As it turns out, Chev is an assassin who freelances for a major West Coast syndicate. A run-of-the-mill job the night before went awry as he let his target slip away in an effort to quit the death-dealing profession and start a new life with his girlfriend Eve. Now, Chev must stay on the movie if he wants to stay alive: the only way to prolong the poison from stopping his heart is to ensure his adrenaline doesn't stop flowing. In a race against time, Chelios cuts a swath through the streets of Los Angeles, knocking down those who dare stand in his way. He must rescue Eve from danger, stay two steps ahead of his foes, and search for an antidote to save his own life."

Jason Statham's best performance is in Collateral. I mean is this guy a one-trick pony or what? I admit that he has a certain tough, too cool for school thing going on that isn't without appeal, but I am baffled by the orgasms that many have for Statham. He doesn't make great movies and he plays the same role in every one, more or less. I for one think it has gotten old and would like him to take on something a litte more challenging. Crank looks stupid beyond belief. Unintentional comedy at its finest. If I was 14 I'd probably think it looked cool, but I haven't been 14 for a while.

well at least he's jumped ship from the PG-13 transporters into something a little more raw. I think he plays his tough guy role well, and he does certainly kick ass. I think his best performance to date was definately in Revolver, which i don't even know if it has seen the light of day in North America.

I'll see it!

I don't think Stathom makes bad movies. Yeah, the Transporter movies suck but Cellular was a lot of fun. The Italian Job was also quite fun. And I also thought Ghosts of Mars and The One were fun although I know those two movies weren't well recieved.

Stathom is still one of the major kings of cool and Crank looks like a blast.

Oh, and another reason, atleast for me, to see it. It costars major hottie Amy Smart who I think has proven herself to be a really good actress too.

The film is just a little intriguing, but a few of the spots look really silly. (Motorcycle stand and the "juice me" scene)

I loved Statham in Snatch, and I wish he'd give it a go once again in a film where he's just a regular joe again.

This is why AMC has $5 movies before noon on the weekends...for people like me who are sure the movie they are about to see is retarded. That way we walk out and say, "At least I only had to pay $5."

I see Statham as a modern day equivalent of Arnie and Sly. Times have changed, and he will probably never get the A-list status that those guys had in the their prime, but it's nice to have at least one old-school action hero around.

Rock is another one, and Diesel too, althought he has been falling off the action map recently. I like all these three guys, and I'm hoping they would get better movies to work on.

Stathan IMHO has a great badass screen presence, he has an impressive physique and does all his stunts himself, and he has a certain likeability about him. And personally I have enjoyed his steady line-up of solid B-actioners.

Crank is having increasingly great buzz, so I'm looking forward to it.

It's not that I think Statham has no talent or is a bad actor. That's not the case. I do think he is playing the same exact character in every single movie and that most (if not all) of his movies are pretty bad. He's getting boring IMO and needs to do something at least a little different.

Starts off quick and throws you in the body of Chevy in his last hours. Way over the top, and a little too choppy for my taste. Some really great scenes as well as some disturbing ones. I thought Jason did a good job of playing a pissed off desperate man and I also liked Dwight Yoakum's character. Dude that played Pedro was even a stranger dude in this one. Amy Smart was sexy, but very annoying. I am also on the fence on this one. I liked parts of it, but it could have been a whole lot more. Some of the dialogue in it was terrible, it seemed like the curse words were just thrown in places because there was an R rating and they could do it. The jury is still out on this one..........

This movie was a fucking BLAST to see! One of the most entertaining, and prolly one of the BEST fucking action flicks I've ever seen! And I thought Statham ruled in The Transporter 2, he definately fuckin' out-does himself in this one!

He plays Chev, who's infected by a Chinese poison, and the only thing that keeps him alive is his adrenaline... His girlfriend is played by the beautiful Amy Smart (Really anyone could've played her part, as it was pretty minor) and she doesn't know that her boyfriend is a professional killer.... And it's basically about how Chev hunts down the gang of guys (with a crazy leader of course) and tries to kill them before he fuckin' dies! :)

This movie has some of the most bizarre, over-the-top, un-fucking-believable, HILARIOUS scenes I've ever seen in a movie, it's less an action movie and almost more of a comedy! Though the action and crazy stunts are fuckin' awesome nontheless!

I would haveta say this movie is the american version of Stephen Chow's "Kung-Fu Hustle" in that it's just so unbelievable, and so hilarious at times, you can't help but fucking LOVE it! Check this shit out as soon as you possibly can, it's the epitomy of a good time/fun at the movies! :D

I loved THE TRANSPORTER (http://kcmsterpce.com/reviews/transporter.html).
I pretty much hated TRANSPORTER 2 (http://kcmsterpce.com/reviews/transporter2.html).

... and I thought RUNNING SCARED (http://kcmsterpce.com/reviews/2006/runningscared.html) was "ok".

Take Statham's charisma from THE TRANSPORTER and the over-the-topness of RUNNING SCARED, but remove RUNNING's attempt at trying to disturb you with far-out fantasy that tries to hit with realism at the same time, inject tons more action, laughter and just as much hyperkenetic energy, and you have CRANK!

I fucking loved this movie. Super fun, and super funny! I give it a 9/10 (http://www.kcmsterpce.com/reviews/2006/crank.html)!!

Eh, it starts out with enough high octane energy, but the fuel runs out and all we are left with is another witless video game. At least it calls attention to its badness, and doesn't shy away from pounding into the cliches like a bloody piece of hamburger meat. It gets boring after the first half hour, up until the sketch drawing of Statham "boner" visual punchline, both of which got a laugh out of me.

I am 99.99% sure that Amy Smart's boobies were a body double. It was almost funny how blatant the angle was, too. A half-second flash of one nipple, with no face visible, and AFTER that, there's Smart with her bra still attached to her breasts. Riiiiight, that was Amy Smart's boobies. :D

Crank

http://www.browntownjohnny.com/index.php

Cross "The Transporter" and the classic noir "DOA" and pump up the camera action and you get "Crank". A hitman is injected with a 'Bejing Cocktail' (it stops you dead unless you keep the adrenaline gland pumped). Chez Chelios (Brit action star Jason Statham plays the same guy in every movie) is out to kill the asshole who drugged him....he will die and it's all he wants. Removing the script staple of an antidote makes it less involving but the directors (Mark Neveldine, Brian Taylor debut) go the 'anything goes' route.

"Crank" is over the top with it's 'tongue in cheek' attitude. A GTAuto Video Game done for real hardcore action junkies. The problems are there, and I lost intrest in the final third act (got a little numbing). Statham is always cool and Amy Smart (playing dumb) does some really funny work here. The bad guys are same-o. The best scene is the Chinatown sex show....believe me it's classic! The style is not paced to please but to annoy the viewer...a major flaw. Otherwise it has a good story and bright stars. It is supposed to be a parody right up to the end. GO Baby!

hahaha, Crank, 9/10. One of the best movies I've seen this year! Hilarious, over the top, and relentless. It just doesn't stop with it's endless, mindless, crazyness that it throws at you from beginning to end. I personally loved the crazy fast and slick editing. It reminded me of Kill Bill meets Shaun of the Dead. I loved everything about this movie, with the only exception being that I went in expecting more action and got more comedy. Though it worked out great in the end. GO SEE THIS!

Crank - 6/10 or ***/***** stars

For the most part, Crank is a relentlessly energetic, strangely hilarious, and entertaining action/thriller, but in its final moments, directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor commit an error in slowing down the pace and ending the film with an anticlimactic showdown between Jason Statham's "Chev Chelios" and the main villain, all of which somewhat ruined the film for me. If only the directors had thought out the conclusion a little more than they did, I would say Crank is a solid piece of brainless entertainment - but it's not.

I actually prefer Statham's Transporter films over this.

I think the thing i liked most about about the movie was the way that from start to finish it seemed to WANT to keep u entertained.

Very fun action movie whose pace is in touch with what's going on with the movie. The movie's basically nonstop the entire way with Statham trying to keep his adrenaline up to stay alive long enough to beat the shit out of the guy that's put him in this predicament. Throw in some T&A, the hot Amy Smart, some clever one-liners, and enough Jason Statham kicking ass to keep me interested through out. It's a cool plot and Statham, being the bad ass mofo that he is, is cool enough to keep the movie going the whole way. There's not enough to make it special or anything, but it's a fun ride and the movie's star and director keep it interesting throughout. Cool movie, damn cool movie.

FUCK Snakes on a Plane! This is THE guilty pleasure movie of 2006!

From start to finish, this movie is a complete blast! It's the movie the Transporter movies SHOULD have been but weren't.

So many memorable moments! But to name a few, the sex scene, the car chase in the mall and the entire hospital sequence were all HILARIOUS! The opening scene, which was shot in Stathom's character's point of view as he is walking around, was very cool too. Much cooler than the POV sequence in Doom last year.

Stathom is as charasmatic as ever. Amy Smart is hot. And the movie NEVER takes itself seriously, always having it's tongue firmly in it's cheek.

Best of all, at 90 minutes, the movie is never in any danger of overstaying it's welcome (unlike Snakes on a Plane).

Cheeky, exhilarating, exciting, sexy and often hilarious, this is one of the most fun times I've had at the movies all year long!

Oh, and one more thing. I LOVE the final scene/shot with Stathom calling his girlfriend and leaving a message as he falls to his death. ONE OF THE BEST FINAL MOMENTS TO A MOVIE EVER!

Crank - 7/10

Very enjoyable movie. I loved the pace of the film. I thought the imagery was very nice also. As well as a good soundtrack. A solid performance by Statham. I think the ending was excellent as well. I was wondering the whole time if they were going to cop out and hollywood the ending, but they didn't and it saved the movie for me.

It's not Snatch, but it's his best performance since that film. (NOTE: Any Statham fans or haters who haven't seen him in Snatch, do yourself a favor and check it out)

Not only is Statham being Turkish-level of cool, but the film (unlike the Transporter flicks) is insanely entertaining, completely over-the-top, surprisingly non-cliche, and always self-aware of itself. If only Domino could've pulled all of those off...

I'm still debating as to whether or not it was genuinely "good" (I'm still leaning towards "no"), but there's no question that it was one of the most enjoyable films I've seen in a while.

I expect to see at least one videogame with this premise, hopefully set in a GTA-style "sandbox" world.

From start to finish, this movie is a complete blast! It's the movie the Transporter movies SHOULD have been but weren't.

My thoughts 100%.

I think E.C. put it quite well in saying that the movie is very self-aware. The guy needs adrenaline to stay alive, so he's pumping himself up therefore giving the audience a boost. It is kinda cool how the movie presents itself that way.

"Crank" Very Quick Review ( +/- )

Better than anticipated. A few moronic scenes - sex in the middle of Chinatown and a blow-job while in the middle of a car chase!?!?! However, the good far outweighed the bad.

Statham is the new Van Damme in my opinion.......
