Just started really getting back into this band.... I know they're in the process of recording new material for a new CD... I read somewhere that so far the band (Which only consists of Corgan and Chamberlain at this point) has either written or recorded 50 songs or somethin' like that...

I don't know if D'Arcy or Iha will be returning... Kinda doubtful, since they were in a relationship and had problems with Corgan and what not....

Also read that Corgan hated the band members who were with him (other than Chamberlain obviously) in the failed band "Zwan"... I've not bought that album though... Is it pretty fuckin' bad (anyone?)...

Anyway, I'm workin' on buyin' all the Pumpkins' albums, with the exception of Earphoria, not really interested in their live stuff (at least not now).... Anyone else like the Pumpkins, or look forward to their new stuff?

Loved 'em back in the day. I stll throw on Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness on occasion.

Judging by how much material Melancholy had I'd easliy believe they had tons of material laying around. Jimi Hendirx was the same way, he had tons of unreleased stuff. I used to own Gish and Siamese Dream. Gish is very psychedelic and Siamese Dream starts of with a great song but the rest of it needs to grow on you. Some of the softer songs like Soma are great. If you haven't found it, try getting the Singles movie soundtrack, my favorite song on the CD is Smashing Pumpkins' "Drown"

The Pumpkins are great. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness is one of my favourite albums.

Ahh, the days when mainstream rock acts were actually worth a damn....

Mellon Collie's my favorite of their's. I think Adore is very underrated as well.

Mellon Collie is awesome, and It's the only one I've heard....

Only album of theirs that I've heard in the new millenium is Mellon Collie. It doesn't hold up for me. There are like three songs that don't bore me.

I love SP. They're my favorite 90's band. I even got their rarities/b sides from iTunes last year when their catalogue was added.

Hopefully Iha comes back otherwise it will just be Zwan II since Auf De Maur isn't back. She's replaced by the original bassist of Jane's Addiction.

Speaking of JA, I'm listening to Ritual de lo Habitual. Of Course is playing.

My brother got me into this band - Mellon Collie & the Infinite Sadness was the first album he ever bought (on crappy tape too)...now he's somehow managed to devolve (that a word?) to the likes of 50 Cent, Panic! at the Disco and god knows what else (his small-town buddies have been getting him into country as of late), but in any case, back when he WAS listening to decent bands, he used to play MC&TIS all the time and he got me hooked.

I'd say Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie are my favorite two...hard to say which one...Mellon Collie has more stuff I like on it but then again, it is a double album so...(I fucking love Mayonaise, Disarm, and Today on Siamese Dream)

Yes I miss the 90s too!

It's not SP without D'Arcy and Iha. Sorry. Corgan is just doing this to milk the name.

Atleast if Iha is aboard then it won't be Zwan part 2. Although, it will take time to get used to a male bassist instead of D'Arcy and Auf De Mar.

IF they get a male bassist... They may stick with a female, ya never know....

And I must say I'm really lovin' their "Adore" album... The music just sounds so different than anything I've heard before... That's what I love about the Pumpkins, they've got such uncategorizable music that sounds so different than a lotta shit that's out there.... I'm really interested to see what they'll come out with next, and I'm glad Chamberlain's going to be in the band still, he's a phenomenal drummer!

The only one it's not SP with is Billy Corgan.

I believe they got the original bassist of Jane's Addiction from what I've heard and yes...Jimmy is one hell of a drummer.

I actually think Disarm is one of the greatest songs ever written.

They are one of my favorite bands ever, I adore (pun intended) almost everything they ever did, up to Machina that is. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite album but If I had to I'd say it's Pisces Iscariot, even though it's only a b-side collection it's beyond awsome stuff in my book.

For some reason I am dreading the thought of a reunion, I don't want them to make butts out of themselves by being just a shadow of their former glory for cash reasons (Iron Maiden anyone?).

As for what Corgan did after their split up, I think Zwan was an okay but not exeptional good band and the record had two or three outstanding songs. His solo project "The Future Embrace" was a lot better, although still no substitute for the Pumpkins (which was the point, I guess). The song he did on it with Chamberlain ("Dia") is pretty fucking awsome in my book.

Again, I hope they don't screw up with their reunion.

Everyone shits on Machina... But I like more than half the album... I like the first 9 songs... But it DOES drag on far too long... Tracks 10-15 didn't really need to be there, nothing worthy.... But the first 9 songs are damned good I though :p

I don't know, I'll haveta give Piesces another listen... I think my favourite is obviously Mellon Collie, followed up by Adore... Both excellent albums, and then Siamese Dream (I think this disc is a bit over-rated actually) but still pretty damned good.... Then I think I would go with Machina, Gish and Piesces...

I've also recently downloaded Machina 2, which was only released online... But I've not gotten a chance to listen to it yet....

I think probably the weakest album by the Pumpkins would have to be Adore, though for the wrong reasons. The album was an experiment, and by no means terrible, but it was just a radical departure from Mellon Collie (classic, bar none) and Siamese Dream (another classic), it turned a lot of people off.

Machina was a solid rebound, but I think it was choked out by a lot of 12 year old girls (read: NSYNC, Backstreet et al). I'm so glad that they're back together and getting ready to kick ass.

BTW, is anyone familiar with their pre-Gish demo recordings? I got my hands on them on a (obviously) bootlegged (and expensive) CD but it was definitely worth it. The tracklist is:
1.Jennifer Ever
2.East
3.Nothing and Everything
4.Sun
5.She
6.Spiteface
7.June
8.Daughter
9.Egg
10.With You
11.Bye June
12.Daydream
13.Rhinocerus
14.Psychedelic
15.Stars Falling
16.Spoken1
17.Spoken2
18.Spoken3
19.Shiva
20.A girl named Sandoz
21.Smiley
(the last 3 songs are obviously from the John Peel Sessions)

I think "Jennifer Ever", "Psychedelic" & "Nothing and Everything" are especially awsome but the whole disc is great. I love the Demo Versions of Daydream and Rhinocerus as well, after repeated listens I actually prefer them to the versions on Gish. Listening to this stuff also makes one look at "Adore" in a different light because many of the songs rely on accustic guitars and vocals rather than their later material, kind of similar to what is on "Adore". If you find these recordings check them out.

Adore is so underrated. Probably my favorite album of theirs.

"For Martha" is too amazing.

Adore sing-handely turned me off Pumpkins. Loved Melon Collie though.
