Plot: THE QUEEN is an intimate behind the scenes glimpse at the interaction between HM Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Tony Blair during their struggle, following the death of Diana, to reach a compromise between what was a private tragedy for the Royal family and the public's demand for an overt display of mourning.

Stephen Frears has a sure touch for guiding his actresses to Oscar nominations (Annette Bening and Anjelica Huston for The Grifters, Judi Dench for Mrs. Henderson Presents and Glenn Close and Michelle Pfeiffer for Dangerous Liaisons), so this looks like a winning role for Helen Mirren.

I didn't think that this topic would interest me all too much, but the trailer looks very interesting, and Mirren's interpretation of the Queen seems like it is going to be amazing!
Looking forward to seeing how it turns out?!

Looks excellent, and Frears has always been a very solid director. Mirren is a legendary actress and this definitely could be the role of her career.
Isn't it interesting that Mirren is playing Queen Elizabeth II in this film, and just this past Sunday won an Emmy for playing Queen Elizabeth I?

I was reading an interview with her a couple months back, before Elizabeth aired on HBO and that parallel was mentioned in the interview. I think she defended QE 2 on the issue of the whole Diana relationship.
Before learning more about the film I initially thought this was going to be a TV movie (for some reason I always think stories about the royal family are automatic TV movies).
I'd love to see the trailer but my quicktime is acting like a dick. Just showing a logo and a question mark.

You know, a film like this would not normally interest me, but after seeing the trailer I must say I'm intrigued.
Helen Mirren is the splitting image of Her Majesty the Queen.
I think I'll check it out.
